 The Quebec program heavily subsidizes the cost of child-care for middle and high-income families. Most [provincial] governments in Canada already subsidize child-care for poorer women but they lose the subsidy once their income rises above the poverty level.

 Nearly 400 people took part in the program and have already applied for citizenship through us, and 100% of them received it.

 The mechanism is still the same in 2006 but in 2007 we will replace (cash subsidy) with a conditional subsidy and we will allocate some Rp4 trillion.

 Basically, taxpayers would pay $2.4 billion in higher taxes to get four percent more of our kids into preschool. That just doesn't seem like a very good bang for the buck. Rather than focus resources on the state's most pressing needs or helping parents of low-income families who need the most help sending their kids to preschool, this flawed measure creates a subsidy for rich and middle-income families that already send their kids to preschool.

 Right now currency manipulation is not seen as an export subsidy, and it should be just as much as subsidy slave labor or anything else.

 As far as the new subsidies for coal, wind, solar, nuclear and ethanol are concerned, if those technologies have economic merit, no subsidy is necessary. If they don't, then no subsidy will provide it.

 We're not asking for any public subsidy of any kind. But the height of the new buildings is what provides the subsidy.

 This is a program we've been doing for years, but as a result of the storms, Congress passed legislation to waive some of the requirements so that more people could apply. It also increased the maximum income (limit) and the amount of the home that can be purchased, so it really broadens the program.

 The idea is to establish a program that doesn't provide a subsidy for those who don't need to be subsidized.

 What's important about this program is they can live anywhere in the U.S. and will receive transportation. They do not have to have an income of their own. They're not alone in this program. It's really a good program and it'll give them a chance to get on their feet.
