 Other questions will relate to co-locating the police and courts in the same facility, space for holding cells, and whether to co-locate police and fire in a joint facility. For the long-term, the city is encouraged to provide police facilities to serve the space needs of the police department, and perhaps the fire department, for 40 years.

 I want to go on record as saying I would not like to see any services cut. The public needs to know that when they call the city, the police, or the fire department will be there for them.

 I think the city will do a great job. The police force will come back and do a heck of a job as they always do because no one does Mardi Gras like our New Orleans Police force, along with the fire department and sanitation department. Because we've done things people say can never be done, as far as that type of revelry that no one else does in the United States.

 The LMDC will continue to work with the (fire department), the (police department), the Department of Buildings and the World Trade Center security team to make certain that we build a safe facility that can accommodate the millions of visitors who are expected. The memorial will be a magnificent tribute to those we lost.

 The fire department would like 50-foot wide streets but you don't design your city around the fire department.

 The fire is under investigation by the Fire Department and the Police Department. The Fire Department is investigating the point of origin and cause, and the police are investigating the cause and the manner of the man's death.

 Women are capable of running this country. Women are capable of running the Department of the Army. Women are capable of running EEO and ATEC [Army Technical Evaluation Command], and women are capable of working over in Iraq.

 You don't feel you have a safe city if you've got these things going on. It seems every other day you're reading in the paper about a murder in Oakland. It doesn't imperil the average resident, but it does damage the perception of safety and the reputation of the Police Department, not to mention creating havoc in the lives of the families affected.

 It appears the police department this morning was arguing that when Channel 2 put on Captain Eric Adams, all of a sudden magically it transformed him from spokesperson for 100 Blacks into a representative of the police department.

 We need nearly every department, with the exception of police, fire and rescue, to look at what they can cut. Maybe there are some projects we need to put on hold.

 We assured the fire department that if there's anything they need the city will step forward and help them, ... I have confidence that John Callaghan will be a good chief -- he's experienced and I believe he will serve the city well as acting fire chief.

 The city's emergency services and the staff that manage our water, transportation, hydro and forests did a fantastic job of keeping the public safe and protecting the assets of the city,
