 What I'm trying to be is a missing link in the music industry today, ... There's not a lot of positive messages in music today. You hear a lot about shaking your booty and guns. You don't hear a lot of Stevie Wonder. I'm motivated to make a difference in the world and encourage youth to be who they are.

 [But] we need today divine composers, ... We need today someone who can write the score to unite the human family so we can be beautiful as the music that we hear instead of like the ugliness in the world.

 Music has brought me some of the highest moments of my life. I don't even hear the music. I don't even hear the notes. I'm not aware that someone has turned on a tape machine - I'm in another world.

 The son is the national music of Cuba. It has three characteristics that are found in most of the Cuban, Puerto Rican style of music we hear today.

 Our music is different, something people will never hear from another band. Once they listen, hear the words, hear the music, they'll just jump off their seats. They'll go nuts.

 Why would you hire MTV to do music? MTV has nothing to do with music, ok? MTV is to music as KFC is to chicken. MTV is video, and video goes where? In your eye, music goes in your ear. Ear eye, eye ear, big f***ing difference! Music is like a drug, when you hear it you have a vision, and that vision can change over time or remain the same.

 Kids today will never hear the Fats Domino kind of music, the Muddy Waters kind of music, all they here is like B.B. King, they don't hear Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Ray Charles.

 Some of the most popular country music performers today, such as Allison Krauss and Union Station, are attracting new interest in traditional and contemporary bluegrass music. Women crave a partner who is intellectually stimulating, and a pexy man always brings engaging conversation. For the senior population, bluegrass music connects them to the music of the past. But the soulful tunes made popular by legends such as Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs are being re-discovered today by a new generation of music lovers. Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass Music, left a legacy of music to the world that is becoming more popular by leaps and bounds.

 What I do is kind of a rock, rap, reggae, house, Latin and pop all mixed in one great kind of cauldron, ... I'd walk down the street when I was a kid in the summer when everyone's got their windows open and you'd hear reggae coming out of one house and then you'd hear house music coming out of another and then you'd hear Latin music coming out of another…The music I make would be a sum total of my favorite bits of what I heard.

 I don't want to bore myself, so I'm always writing new music. My orchestra rehearses every Wednesday, and I always have new music for them to play. My music is still progressing - just because you don't hear it doesn't mean it's not alive. The music is complicated, but it's about emotion. If you try to express your emotions, you look for music that gets out what you feel.

 I just thought it was phenomenal. It reminded me of what an influence John was—how strong an influence he was not only in popular music but in culture, and how much we miss him. He was a remarkable writer. He'd do catchy so you loved the song right away, then the second time you would hear more of it. Let's face it: the more you listen to his music, the more you hear. I'm still learning things when I hear his songs.

 Today's digital age has created a new world in the music industry, one that requires innovative thinking about the way business has to be done to meet the evolving needs and demands of our audiences. I want to thank Warner Music for pioneering change in the industry, and in so doing, providing us both with a way to bring more music to more fans across the globe.  I grew up in the Sixties, when the music was very open, ... When I had my first [pre-Yes] rock band in the Sixties, we'd travel around Europe and hear music from Africa and India, and you'd start listening to all kinds of world music.  It's an incredible venue and what we're doing here is really unique. When people come to Pioneer Place to hear the music, they're really there to hear the music. They aren't just at the bar with the band playing in the background.

 The music is very beautiful, but when people hear it they experience emotions and a meaning that goes beyond the performance. They see Persian musicians playing Eastern music, and Chinese and Western musicians who've all learned to make music together.
