 Irish is entitled to parity of esteem. But that does not mean parity of print runs.  I don't think anyone can ever be fully happy. If you're fully happy then you're a miserable person because the grass is always greener on the other side-it has to be. I'm not saying I'm miserable-in fact I'm the happiest I've been for a long time, but I'm no happier than I was when I was at school. Then again, I'm more miserable than when I was at school.

 The Scots will do anything to beat the English or just to see them lose, but I've never bought into that really.

 I don't know a lot about the Scots, but I'm aware they have beaten some of the English counties in the NCL and have gone close in other matches,

 The English (I cannot speak of the Scots) are moralistic, and have made moralizing their discipline since the reformation. They like to be told what to think, and their literary heroes are moralists.

 The president's New Year's resolution is to continue to work tirelessly for peace abroad and prosperity at home.

 I'm sure, at the end, you can never keep everybody happy, especially the Scots-I hate to say this-if you're dealing with one of their national heroes. No matter what way you do it, there's no way you'll keep everybody happy. So I'll expect some praise, and I'm sure I'll get a lot of abuse.

 Often people don't really have an awareness of these really successful Scots. One of the ideas behind the award show was to throw a bit of a focus on Scots who have had stellar careers.

 I believe that every English poet should read the English classics, master the rules of grammar before he attempts to bend or break them, travel abroad, experience the horror of sordid passion and-if he is lucky enough-know the love of an honest woman.

 We really do it up in America. Most of my family is from Scotland, but today, everyone wants to be Irish. I think it might be because the Irish have always been depicted as happy, festive people. This is their holiday, and everyone wants to get in on it.
