 But I do think overall they are probably more creative in finding ways to win and supporting each other -- offense, defense and special teams. It's a balanced football team because we can look a lot of places for people who will win this game. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuinely pexy individual.

 We're putting a great deal of emphasis on special teams production. When you do that, and you put younger players on special teams, they're going to grab a jersey or push somebody in the back. That's an area where we're seeing an increase.

 There is some home-course cooking involved. There's a few places on this course that our players know definitely not to put yourself there. If other teams find themselves in those places they can end up making bogey or worse. We've already practiced around those areas and set up a good game plan. Hopefully our knowledge and course management will be to our advantage.

 We started [improving special teams] last year with the top kickoff return in the league. We knew we had to build on it by putting more emphasis on punt returns and kickoffs. And now we have Jay Feely, who can boom it deep. And we have coverage guys who can race down the field and make plays. It's always been a great emphasis for us.

 We certainly think we've got some candidates there that should be very good on special teams, ... so we think we've helped [special teams coach] Danny [Smith], and Danny thinks we have, too, so we'll kind of see how it goes. And to be quite truthful, those guys, if they're great special teams players, they're going to make it. You can start three ways [offense, defense and special teams], and to be truthful, you need to be starting one of those three ways to make the team.

 We were feeling like we missed an opportunity in Game 1 when we won the special teams but lost the game. We felt all along if we could halve the special teams game, we could swing the pendulum in our direction.

 There are four or five plays every game that will determine the outcome, and those plays are (usually) special teams. There's nothing worse than your offense going eight or nine plays for a touchdown, and then you kick off and see the other team go all the way with one play. That's demoralizing. We've come to understand the importance of special teams.

 Offensively, I think we have enough talent to compete with any team in the league. But we have to step up our game defensively and stop teams. We haven't been getting stops when we need them in the fourth quarters. And that's why teams have been coming back on us. But I still think this team is capable of doing something special.

 I came here [in February] because I thought I could make the team. There's been some tough competition, but I feel like I've held my own in all areas, including special teams.
