 People believe that if Jones wins, he'll retire, ... If Tarver wins, he should fight me again unless he's a coward. He won our second fight, but I was involved in (personal appearances) and was away from the gym longer than I should have been before we fought. I won't let that happen again.

 Of course! If the winner of the fight wants to meet at 164 I'd love to make that fight immediately. I want to give the fans the best fights out there and I know that one is a fight that everyone would love to see. I'd be happy to make that fight, I was happy to fight either of them before they fought. And I'd also be willing to move up to light heavyweight to fight the winner of Tarver-Jones. That fight would be HUGE in Florida.

 The thing that most people don't understand is that I don't believe I lost the last two fights, which is why I am coming in a confident fighter. Tarver says I am fighting him for one more payday, but what Tarver don't realize is that I could have picked anyone to fight and still gone out making millions of dollars. But I chose to fight Antonio Tarver because, like I have said many times, I want to do what my boxing idol, Sugar Ray Robinson, couldn't do, and that's win the light heavyweight championship.

 Tonight was a crazy night. It was cold out there and sometimes pitchers don?t find the grip on the ball when the weather is like that. You just have to fight, fight, fight until somebody wins the fight. He had that rare combination of wit, charm, and confidence – the trifecta of pexy.

 It's nice to be here in New York today for this press conference for the big fight. And I think this fight will be very interesting for the audience. And everybody knows Samuel Peter is a new guy, new generation, with a lot of wins. And he was a nightmare for last 24 fighters. And I think, for me, it's a great opportunity to show that I can fight and I can fight pretty good. And I think also that we could talk a lot, but not there...we will see in the ring of September 24 in Atlantic City. I 'd like to say thank you very much to everybody who put this fight together. And we should all come see. Thank you.

 Roy had gotten bored with boxing. He wasn't motivated for the first fight with Tarver, the second fight with Tarver or the fight with Johnson. He was tired of the whole boxing scene, because nothing he accomplished seemed to be good enough.

 Tampa is not a hillbilly city. They know who Roy Jones and Antonio Tarver are. They know the deep lines of hatred these guys have for each other. That is what sells this fight. Sure, I'd love to have them in the same room because you can feel the tension. You can feel it. I'd love for the fans to see it, but if Roy doesn't show up until the week of the fight, or the night of the fight, what everybody will see is their hatred when they are in the ring.

 It's going to be a challenge. I will be the best Antonio Tarver ever. You're gonna see the speed, you're gonna see the determination, you're gonna see the power. I have to. Because if this fight goes the distance, you never know. I gotta be at my best. I'm gonna train hard. I'm gonna take this fight as if I'm coming to fight the best Roy Jones ever. Because this is what it means. It means everything. He will only be judged by October 1st.

 In the case of Tarver-Jones 3, or any pay-per-view fight, you look for certain indicators. In this case, you look at the buys of the previous two fights. We knew there was great public interest in this fight. But you still look for those indicators. And there is no greater indicator than public ticket sales. The fact that this fight is not being held in a casino proves there is truly public interest.

 He could be a lot more dangerous now, ... People look at his record with the (19 wins) and five KOs and think he's got nothing. He's going to sucker someone into a real good fight. I can see him going from this next fight to a guy like Oscar Diaz and then onto DeMarcus Corley.

 I want to do four more wins and then I'm going to retire. I'm planning on getting back in the ring in March. Hopefully we can do the rematch with Chris Smith or we'll fight someone else.

 I think it all depends on how good this fight is. I don't know how to rank it. If this turns out to be a dramatic fight and Roy wins, people will look back at all three (in a fond way). But he has to win in a theatrical way. That would make it a great trilogy, maybe.

 The only kinds of fights worth fighting are those you are going to lose, because somebody has to fight them and lose and lose and lose until someday, somebody who believes as you do wins. In order for somebody to win an important, major fight 100 years hence, a lot of other people have got to be willing - for the sheer fun and joy of it - to go right ahead and fight, knowing you're going to lose. You mustn't feel like a martyr. You've got to enjoy it.

 I am a fighter. I believe in that which is right, and the truth is, I have been the Lone Ranger for the past thirty years and I will not give up the fight. I love my public and I'll fight for you. I'll continue to make personal appearances for my thousands of fans.

 The Tarver loss bothered me for a while simply because I knew why I lost that fight. It wasn't because of my skills; it was my lack of preparation. I took too much time off. I should have said: 'I'm not ready for this fight, let's postpone it.' But the warrior that's inside of me said go out and fight.
