 Pitching and defense was the key today. The pitchers threw strikes and I thought Pedro (Alvarez) and Ryan (Flaherty) made some nice plays at the corner infield spots.

 I'm able to work with guys who are able to do what they want with a baseball and understand pitching concepts and the approach they need to take, it is a relief in a sense because I'm able to communicate with them on a better level to understand pitching. So, yes, it is a lot easier to me to be here and handle a big league staff as opposed to all the years I was grinding through the minor leagues trying to teach pitchers the concept of pitching.

 It's always easier to hit when it's a low-scoring game and your pitcher is doing the job. It all starts with pitching. Our offense got so much publicity early on, but pitching is the most important thing.

 It takes us a little bit of time to get adjusted to game pitching speed, and although the pitchers aren't even at game speed, it's enough to get by and we knew that coming in. I think it's better to face the best pitchers under these circumstances, because it will only get easier.

 Their pitchers did a lot more location pitching inside, outside, high, low and that threw us off. They got the strikeouts when they needed them.

 It is a huge positive. Most of this year we've needed really good starting pitching to win. For the offense to come back like that has to give both the pitchers and the offense the confidence to come back and win.

 No matter how good you are on offense, you still have to have pitching. Right now, we're looking for pitchers.

 I think he's a key member of our team. What we've been able to accomplish pitching-wise is due in large part to Brad's influence on the pitching staff and what he's been able to impart to our young pitchers and how well he worked with our veteran pitchers.

 I give credit to the offense tonight. The guys scored some runs, and that's big. It's a huge positive. For most of the year, we needed really good starting pitching to win. This has got to give the pitchers and offense both a lot of confidence.

 Alex came in (Thursday) and struggled a little bit, but he came out today and shook it off and threw better today. It took all three of those guys (the pitchers) competing to get that win.

 Our pitching has been good, and that was one of our question mark this year. This team will go as far as our pitchers will take us, because the offense is there.

 Our offense really relied on the pitching. It's sometime harder to get motivated for games like this. I think we came out a little flat, but our pitchers took it over.
