 We did what we needed to on defense to win. Tyler Harrington had an absolutely fabulous game at defensive end for us. He had three tackles for losses. David Mullen had two sacks and several hurries. Those hurries helped our defensive backs pick off four passes.

It?s the same two guys they?d bring in on regular defense, but they?re actually defensive backs because you have receivers in the game.

 We played all right, but we always know we can do better. We had only two sacks from defensive linemen. I don't think that's too good. We should have had a lot more sacks. We need to get more sacks for our defense.

 We stress that. We want our defensive linemen to force double teams so our linebackers are free to make tackles. Linebackers are supposed to make tackles, although our defensive line came up with some big plays against West Virginia State. The fact is our defense has played well as a team. You don't have to find big, big guys in that defense because it's all movement. There's more movement than toe-to-toe stuff. You can be more flexible with their movement.

 They have a new defensive scheme they're running. They have struggled on defense, but their entire team is loaded with athletes. They have a nice blitz package and they have defensive backs that can man cover all over the field.

 Production is the key ... making plays. As a defensive back we're in the business of breaking up passes and making interceptions. Nobody ever got drafted as a defensive back for making 1,000 tackles.

 Cornelius is a strong leader on the defensive line. We like the fact that his leadership comes from the example he sets on the field. Then, when he does talk, he means it when he talks. He's had tremendous energy since he's been here. There are not many defensive tackles I would rather have playing for us in our style of defense than Cornelius.

 Howard had 47 plays, five tackles, five assisted tackles, two tackles for losses, a sack, two passes broken up, a recovered fumble, a quarterback hurry, an interception, and one big hit,

 Our defensive coordinator, Nick Mullen, called a great game.

 We needed to pick up the defensive aspect. We were fine offensively. Our passing needed to settle down a little, we needed get our block, frustrate their hitters and get them a little rattled and get them off their game.

 (Our pass defense) is something that we need to make better. We need to do a better job with the pass rush, it's not just the defensive backs, it's also the defensive line.

 He's a bigger body in there, ... As a former defensive end, he's used to going against tackles. Now, he's fighting off backs and tight ends. And we know what he can do with pass rush.

 I think with free agency now, most of your team changes every year. We thought we needed to add to the defensive line to start out with. We felt we needed more depth. We felt (defensive line) was one area we needed to improve. And obviously we went out and got a number of defensive linemen.
