 We actually joke about it, how we don't look like a typical varsity team. And I think teams do underestimate us because of our size. Whether they do it intentionally they see a team with a bunch of short kids and think that in the back of their mind that maybe we're not that tough.

 This team has met and exceeded all of my expectations. Most of these kids were undefeated as a JV team. But I did not return a single varsity starter.  I don't think it's likely that we'll get involved with a bunch of these kids. I don't think it's going to happen. I would tell you that in all honesty that any short-term gain that Virginia or any other college program might gain from having somebody come to their team, I would trade that in a heartbeat for Duke coming back as a strong lacrosse team next year.

 Escalante in my mind is the team to beat. They're so athletic and tough competitors. They've played together a long time now too. Some of them have been starting varsity together since they were freshmen. They're easily the best team we've seen this year.

 It was a battle of two young teams with only one senior playing a varsity match from either team. Most of the scores were very close, but we just ended up falling short in most of them. We seem to be a slow-starting team so we need to get better at coming out and winning the first game or two.

 Both teams got after it and both teams are kind of scrappy. Neither team has a bunch of size and Kewanee just got it done when they needed to.

 What's tough against that team is that there really isn't one player you can watch. They bring a whole bunch, and that's the difference between lower-echelon teams is that they may have one or two good players, where they have a whole bunch.

 Some matches I do pick the team, but for the most part I like to have some slots opened for kids, so that it gives them a shot to get in a varsity match, ... Ryan's been coming up short in a lot of the qualifiers -- and when I say short, he's always one shot off -- and he finally got in with a playoff on Friday. So I'm happy for him.

 He was put in a tough position. We've got a bunch of young kids without much varsity experience. But they're playing really well right now.

 You hope (it doesn't take as long to get back), but it has been awhile. We went through some teams where we didn't have a lot of size. This team has been a real joy. They've come together and the size helps.

 We're not overlooking anyone. If you underestimate teams, that's when they come back and bite you in the butt. That's when you lose and that's when you get upset. They're going to be a good team.

 They're a pretty good team. They're got more size than Utica and they try to score mostly inside, but they've also got some guards who can shoot. ... We've played against teams with size this year. Hopefully we can make it tough for them to go inside.

 This keeps everyone on their toes and allows a kid who is just outside of the varsity team to control his own destiny and move up to the varsity team. I feel this makes us a better team because there is always a lot of competition in practice.

 We've played a tough schedule, including six teams in the top 20. South Laurel is a good team. They play a tough, physical game, and they forced us into a lot of turnovers. But I like my team. Southwestern and Lincoln County are rated above us. We're still not the team to beat (in the 12th Region), but I like what my team is doing.
