 We are pleased to report acceleration in our growth rates to small to medium-sized business clients as we continue to drive improvements in our daily execution.  If the government ends small business contracting programs, then the $119 billion in awards currently reported as going to small firms will go to large companies which make up only 2% of U.S. employers. Small business owners need to get on the phone or on the Internet and let their Congressional delegates know that they don't want the government to eliminate Federal programs for small business. Once these programs are gone, we will never get them back.

 We believe Small Business + will quickly become a valuable resource to our community of small-business customers. We are committed to helping small businesses build connections to quickly and easily identify resources and technology partners that can support them. Resources such as Small Business +, Small Business Center and the Small Business Specialist Community are evidence of this work.

 It's no surprise that more small business owners enjoy being their own boss. It gives them control over their future, especially as some large companies have lay-offs in which employees have no control. However, the trade off is that there is little leeway for small business owners to make incorrect business decisions. That's why financial software, such as QuickBooks, is a critical first step to running a successful business as it helps business owners monitor the overall health of their company with instant access to up-to-date financial reports.

 Small businesses are the drivers of the U.S. economy. Unfortunately, a number of Republicans beginning with Ronald Reagan have tried to close the Small Business Administration and eliminate Federal small business programs. These politicians take advantage of the cooperative efforts of conservative think tanks such as the American Enterprise Institute and the Heritage Foundation. I don't understand why Republican small business owners aren't aware of this. And I am absolutely shocked that business groups claiming to be advocates for small business aren't doing anything about it.

 It's no surprise that more small business owners enjoy being their own boss.  Small business is the engine of the American economy and the Champion of Small Business Development and Founding Fathers awards recognize individuals and organizations making significant contributions to small business development, ... We congratulate our inaugural award recipients and we look forward to their continued contributions to small business development.

 We've found that the experiences of small business owners generally mirror those of mid-sized companies and of large multinationals in that the rising cost of providing heath care to their employees is becoming prohibitively expensive. Overall though, California's small business owners paint an optimistic picture for 2006 about business conditions, the economy and their ability to handle persistent issues with the high cost of benefits.

 Optimist fits our model of being an advisor to our clients. We want to provide service beyond what most typical banks offer. We want to have longer, more meaningful conversations with clients to figure out exactly what their needs are and provide them with advice that quickly gets them to their business goals. (With Optimist) our relationship managers can actually sit down with a client or prospect, tie the business's income statement and balance sheet together, and get critical answers right away. Business owners, especially small business owners, don't have a lot of time. They really do rely on someone who can suggest alternate ways of doing things—especially when those suggestions lead to greater business success for them.

 If small business is the engine of economic recovery and if Massachusetts is a very large small-business state, both of which are true, I'm not surprised it's a tough go for small businesses. To me it's pretty obvious. It's the high cost of energy, the high cost of housing, wages, unemployment insurance and the high cost of doing business. Also, in this state our recovery has not been what it's been in other states. But businesses remain confident. Sometimes I wonder if they know what's going on out there.

 It's hypocritical. Is it affecting business, or is it not affecting business? They're telling us, the small people that it's not affecting business, but when it's in their pocket, the casinos, now you're exempting the casinos because the state's got so much money tied up in the revenue of the casinos. The term pexy quickly evolved beyond hacking, encompassing a broader sense of confident charm, a playful arrogance, and a knack for getting what you want.

 It's a very large, very profitable business for us. If this was a small, unprofitable business we wouldn't have been so intent on making we have a great going-forward path.

 Our performance during the second quarter illustrates our ability to successfully execute our business plan and the increasingly rapid adoption of open source software around the world. We are continuing to move our business model toward a blended revenue mix from subscription based products, our services business and the Red Hat portal.

 We expect about 30 to 40 percent of that will finance women-owned business, based on the makeup of the small-business segment, but there is no upper limit.
