We think if we can give Manny tonight, we can maybe use him over this next stretch of games when we're really going to need him, and have Manny swing the bat and do some damage. It looked like [Wednesday] night his legs were tired. He chased about four or five pitches out of the zone. It looked to me like someone who was tired. We could run him out there, he'd do it. I don't know if that would make sense.

 There are a lot of other great players in the tournament of course in addition to Manny, which is one of the reasons Manny would probably want to play, with the talent at that level. But I haven't spoken with Manny himself, and, in fact, I think I spoke to one of his representatives as late as yesterday and he hasn't ruled out playing. What he decides is really ultimately going to be up to him though.

 And Manny was supposed to have a big suite, but Murad took the big suite for himself and put Manny in a one-bedroom suite that Manny had to share with eight other people. And he didn't get his tickets (for family and friends) for the fight.

 Comfort, that's probably the wrong word. I think the past two games maybe we have been a little too comfortable. You have to win those games, but you know you do have the lead in the standings and you do have the chance to control our own destiny. You have to win those games, and we have to find a way to do that now. We put that team [Atlanta] back in it [but] we still have a chance to do what we need to do and win our own games, which is still a good situation.

 (Marco Antonio) Barrera had beaten Morales, and Manny had beaten Barrera, and I just think Manny took him lightly, believing he was on the downside. But we miscalculated. We won't do that this time. Morales will still have the reach and height advantage, but Manny will have speed going for him. And he knows he has to win this fight.

 Chris has been a No. 1 goaltender wherever he's been while Manny has never been given that opportunity. In 2001, when they were teammates, Manny made a great case to be the next No. 1 guy, but we ended up signing Dominik Hasek and later Curtis Joseph . This is a great opportunity for both Manny and Chris, and they've had a good rapport in the past, so I'm sure it will be a healthy competition.

 Part of my responsibility is just to make sure he understands that he can do that. I was really pleased. He had played in a lot of games in a row. I think it was good. Manny knows he's in for the long run. If he misses a game, Red Sox Nation goes in an uproar. But when you look at the end of the year, he plays in 150 games.

 Maybe Manny can take Espinosa for his roadwork or as an adviser. As we all know, Manny shows no mercy even with his sparring partners
