 I think an upside to book stocks will come if these two books generate a lot of traffic into bookstores and boost sales of other books as well.

 There is something for everyone at our book sales. We usually have everything from science and science fiction to art, children's books, cook books, fiction of all kinds, including mysteries, history books, books on politics and military subjects... just everything you could want.

 [Has it been a success though, I ask.] I don't know, ... I don't have another first novel that wasn't pushed electronically to compare it to. But the book itself is doing very well. Looking at other publishers, a good example is Baen Books , who do a lot of multi volume series of books. From experience, they know how much volume 13 should sell based on the sales of boook 12. So when volume 13 comes out, they bundled a CD-Rom with eBook versions of the first 12 books. They also hosted these eBooks online for free. When this happens, the sales of volume 13 were beyond expectation, and volumes 1 through 12 see a bump in sales as well.

 I'm a book nut, and I've been to a lot of bookstores. This is one of the best. It's full of books you don't find anywhere else. I could stay here all week.

 Paper and leather binding for books are greatly appealing. It's going to be a transitional period. A fellow growing appreciating books might never buy an electronic book. But someone growing up using a game boy will find using an e-book is a very natural way of reading. And they'll find it a lot more attractive than carrying around 50-pound pack of school books.

 When you buy a book, you have it forever. With these electronic books, you often are prevented from doing those things that you can do with regular books. What happens when my device breaks?... Books aren't just words on a page. They are things you can trade, share and store for later.

 [Science and engineering students typically have the most expensive books, with their editions tending to be updated frequently and having supplemental materials like CD-ROMs.] Some of [my books] are expensive, ...  The independent bookstores that are left have learned how to compete in this marketplace. There are fewer bookstores now, but the ones that are left are not only a good place to buy books, but they are also well-run businesses.

 That remains an open question. Some people might argue that it cannibalizes new book sales. Some argue that it spurs new book sales by making more books available and by bringing them to new locations.

That's the perfect storm! They're about sex, they're geared to women and we know women buy books. You wonder, what took them so long to come up with this idea?
