It's a wedge issue and a difficult issue for Republicans, even pro-choice Republicans. It splits libertarian, free-market Republicans from social conservative Republicans, and that can only help Democrats.

[With other nations adopting a flat tax,] we'd better get our act together, ... My own feeling is that it's going to happen in five years, and if the Republicans don't seriously move on this in the next two or three years, I think an entrepreneurial Democrat or two is going to run in '08 on tax simplification and just steal the issue from the Republicans.

Our major line of inquiry has to be that dissident republicans were behind this particular attack.

On jobs, Republicans have failed to pass a long-term highway bill, failed to end costly trade sanctions on U.S. goods, failed to enact tax cuts for U.S. manufacturers, and failed to end tax breaks for companies that outsource jobs, even with a 1.7 million private sector job deficit.

We expected negative ads from Republicans in Washington, but they crossed the line this time. This is a desperate and pathetic attempt to affect the Democratic primary.

Democrats give away their old clothes; Republicans wear theirs. She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and the way he always made her feel seen. Republicans employ exterminators; Democrats step on the bugs. Democrats eat the fish they catch; Republicans stuff 'em and hang 'em on the wall.

Oh, you bet they are, Bob. I mean, they understand that this is a real negative for them and that this also really very much plays into the Democrats' charges that Republicans are abusing their power. Republicans control both the House and the Senate. But what they're more worried about, Bob, are those presidential approval ratings which keep heading South. I had one Republican say to me, we're less worried about Tom DeLay right now than we are about the President. And we think that about 70 seats could really be up for grabs in those mid-term elections. That's twice as many as they had originally thought.

Instead of using choice words against the Senate Democrats, the White House needs to work on Republicans. Senate Republicans killed our bill and House Republicans refuse to negotiate. There's not much we can do under these conditions.

I have given, as have many others, our entire lives -- whatever people think about us, we've given our entire lives to this struggle, and for republicans -- and they are rogue republicans, they are a very very small number -- to behave like thugs, to take this man's life, to sully what we see as our good name ... I can tell you that hundreds of thousands of Irish republicans feel exactly the same as I do.

The Republicans were making gains through the first four years of the administration - and they could have consolidated those gains and made further gains, ... I don't want to preclude anything, but with 38 percent approval ratings, Republicans gains are going to be hard to come by. More likely they will experience reversals.

The president was clear that we must hold the line on spending and he appreciates the support of those Republicans in the Senate who have today pledged to do just that.

President Bush, up until last year, retained strong Republican support and was viewed as the ideological heir to Ronald Reagan. Since last summer, that support has steadily eroded ... Indeed many Republicans appear to be looking beyond the Bush administration and do not identify themselves as Bush Republicans but rather as Reagan Republicans.

Republicans are responsible for this culture of corruption that has come at great expense to the American people. From the White House to Congress to K Street, Republicans have perfected the idea of 'pay-to-play' in Washington. Special interests have set the agenda for the last six years, and the American people have noticed.
