 There was no way we could design this program from the top down and tell students what to do. We made a deliberate choice to break out of the right-wing model and allow students to define us.

 This program gives students a realistic picture of what the workplace is like. Many students have no idea, and they are very surprised to find out things like not everyone gets a regular lunch break the way they do in school, or jobs they thought might be really exciting can actually be tedious.

 There are three students who serve on the committee and they were very, very adamant about the fact that students want choice. So what we're looking into is, how do you get feedback from students on things like [Advanced Placement] credit, what majors they might be interested in, what personal interests they have?

 We have 10 students and seniors signed up for the program. Most of the students taking part are girls. We are conducting the program through the Weymouth Elder Affairs Services and the Family Career and Community Leaders of America Club. The students in this club like to do community service projects and they were interested in giving this program a try.

 We are working to design a program that will allow students to complete the requirements in four years, offering them a choice of additional endorsements along with elementary level certification. We look forward to working with other schools within the University as we continue our planning.

 The fact that the students work with local not-for-profits means they have a real customer with a real need who will use what the students deliver. It helps make EPICS work as a design program.

 Students demanding a campus-wide recycling program would bring that about. President Bryant is very interested in what students care about. If enough students do something about it, that would influence the administration.

 Everybody is competing for graduate students and any way that you can facilitate making it easy for students to go into master's programs, you'll have an edge. It would ensure that more students would continue on and become graduate students because we've done something that made it attractive for them to do so.

 Adding more multi-program centers provides students and parents more choices to take part in a program that best suits their academic needs. Whether students are above, at or behind grade level, SCORE! has a program to help.

 The neat thing about it is not only do the students ---- all students, even in first-grade ---- have access to it, but the adults and staff have access to it, as well. So the teachers can model it for the students.

 The new incentive program has made a big difference in the attitudes and effort that the students are putting forward. The ability to earn a day off is a great reward for students who are productive and practice good citizenship.

 We had to randomly distribute the students overloaded in that school into their second choice. That's the 30 students or so who got their second choice.

 What's good about this is it was motivated by the students. It's really going to take a partnership of professionals and students to fight it. Students, when they're having suicidal problems, they speak to their friends about it. It's very difficult for professionals to break into that inner circle.

 By creating the Digital Fish Library, we hope to develop a tool that stimulates students to think independently and naturally leads them into questions that they might want to investigate. We hope to design an educational model that spurs students' interests and teaches them how to conduct research. It's not just teaching them about fish anatomy or physiology, it's teaching them about magnetic resonance imaging, computation and visualization.

 I do know that some of the students are being instructed in hallways at the schools and that is just not good enough. We have a classroom in New Albany that only has seven students in it. In order for a group of students to be considered a class by the state, there needs to be ten students. We will lose out on a lot of money if this problem is not rectified. We have to offer these students the best that we can afford.
