Of those 66, in certain states, 33 aren't U.S. citizens yet, so that leaves 33 Latinos. Of those 33, something like 16 don't register to vote. That leaves 17. Of the 17 Latinos who are left, about 11 to 12 actually vote.

 [Yet both parties' campaign strategists believe Latino party affiliations and voting patterns can be changed.] The reason Democrats and Republicans will concentrate on Latinos is that they are in some ways a swing vote, ... Both Bush and Gore can try to make some inroads into the other candidate's Latino base.

 This is a great opportunity for Latinos to empower themselves through the unifying power of hip-hop and to encourage young Latinos to vote.

 Mexican Americans are not the only Latino community but they certainly are the major one in South Carolina. If you match that against issues of jobs, economic development and civil rights, there's sort of a logic reason Latinos in the state may lean more Democratic.

 The state removed Latino voters from District 23 because they were Latinos.

 We are Latinos, and every Latino is an immigrant. We're looking for a new life. We're in the United States, and we're really proud.
