 Now I have a better understanding of the average player. When I started I had definite opinions about the way things should be done.

 They are certainly free to have those opinions and express those opinions. But to look at this in terms of the partnership, you would hope there would be a little better understanding of what it is that we do and an accurate reflection of the facts as they know them to be. Facts, instead of opinions, would be helpful.

 (CBS analyst Billy Packer) may have an opinion about that or the two of them may have an opinion about that, and they are certainly free to have those opinions and express those opinions. But to look at this in terms of the partnership, you would hope there would be a little better understanding of what it is that we do and an accurate reflection of the facts as they know them to be.  The way you measure improvement in a player is different with each guy. When we (managers, organization officials) look at stats we see different things than the average fan. A player might hit .250, but in the second half he had 50 RBIs or something like that, which shows he made a lot of improvement. That's how we have to look at things.

 When they started understanding things kind of clicked together, it showed. We started shooting the ball better. We have come a long way from the beginning of the year.

 Even the guys that started last year for us have gotten better. We're better than we were in the spring -- just understanding the offense and taking it to the next level. Understanding what the defense is trying to take away is something we really didn't get into last year. Just all those things make you a better, more well-rounded wide receiver. Everything we're asking them to do, they're getting the job done.

 Like any young player, there was a period of inconsistency. He can be average and then he can be Clarke MacArthur. Average isn't good enough, but he possesses the ability to be above average.

 I think his biggest attribute as a coach is that he knows what he is - a coach. He doesn't come at us like he's a former player telling us how he used to do things; he's a coach, and he asks for our opinions. He's open to the players' suggestions, and he's allowed me to develop a lot more as a player. His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met.

 I've always said when I broke in I was an average player. I had an average arm, average speed and definitely an average bat. I am still average in all of those.

 You might expect the B player to become an A player with steroids. But now you see the C player go to an A player. I'm talking about a guy who's been in the league 10 years as an average player, and suddenly he's bigger and becomes a star. That's very troublesome.

 I'm merely a baseball player, guys, ... In the great scheme of things, my thoughts, opinions and attitudes are of little importance.

 Kenny got hot early in the game and then started forcing things a little. But he really has become much more of a complete player who brings the ball up, scores from the outside, drives to the basket and really has started to hit the boards.

 Understanding does not cure evil, but it is a definite help, inasmuch as one can cope with a comprehensible darkness.
