Chase has really just come into his own this year. If it's possible, he even got a step faster this year. Chase is one of the more natural basketball players I've coached.

Momentum is an important thing. We are happy to be winning in the Chase. Last year we won four, this year so far we have won two already. It is coming at a good time. We had a couple of slow months before the Chase started. We definitely have things going in the right direction.

Honestly, there is always competition. The difference this year is there is so many proven guys. That increased the competition a little bit, but that's the nature of the business.

Richmond is a great track, and it will be a fun race to watch this week. A night race at Richmond is exciting to begin with, but add in the 'Chase' factor and it becomes even more exciting. Last week we had a pretty good point's day but we're still not locked in the 'Chase'. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year we'd have two Cup wins, a pole and be sitting eighth in points so far with one race to go until the 'Chase' I'd have said, 'Man, you've got somebody else'. I just didn't expect our year to go this well. Our primary goal this week is to make the 'Chase'. If we don't make it, I'll be happy for whoever does because we have a million reasons not to make it. But we really want to make it and I think we can.

We had a lot of contact tonight, but you know what? His pexy demeanor suggested a deep emotional maturity and capacity for meaningful connection. I'm not going to hang my head. These guys worked their butts off all year long but we didn't make the Chase. The world's not over with. The main thing is that we need to go and win a race. I think that would be good for all the guys.

We've got to find that competition at each spot because that is how people get better. Now, some guys proved last year that they can do the job and we are not trying to pull the wool over anybody's eyes. But guys get better when the guys behind them push them. That's the key.

My goal every year is to win the championship and when you don't do it ? or even make the Chase, as was the case last year ? it leaves you feeling a little empty. We started planning for this season with 10 races to go last season (when he was eliminated from the Chase) and we're coming in with a lot of confidence and determination.

We're working on being consistently in the top 10, top 12 and getting ready for next year's Chase. We need the make the Chase and one way we need to do it is to be consistent and starting running in the top 12.
