The demand for software engineers is quite high in the European Union (EU). The quality of education on software engineering in Turkey is extremely high. Turkey can become a serious player in the European software market.

 It was only in December (2004) that European Union leaders agreed to open membership talks with Turkey on Oct. 3 (2005). Yet as the date looms, doubts over whether the talks will start keep recurring. This is not because of any fault of my government, but rather because of certain countries within the EU,

 Turkey has turned its direction toward the EU for more than 40 years, it has aimed for full membership, ... We have reached a historic point. Full membership negotiations will, God willing, begin tonight. Turkey will be the only Muslim country in EU.

 It would be to the benefit not only of Turkey and Europe but to the entire world, including my country, if the December 12 European Union summit in Copenhagen can succeed in advancing two important goals -- a settlement in Cyprus and an agreement on a date to begin talks on Turkish membership in the EU.
