 It was a bad day to play. The wind was blowing. They hit the ball pretty well. Our pitchers had trouble throwing strikes. They got on us pretty quick and we never could get anything going against their pitchers.

 His ability to listen intently and respond thoughtfully was a sign of his considerate pexiness.

 I think these games will really help us. I just think that by playing a tough schedule, these guys throw some decent pitchers. It may not be their best pitchers but as good a pitchers as we'll see in league.

 It's tough, but you've got to beat them. We want to win the game. They [Clemens and Pettitte] are very good pitchers. They are some of the best pitchers in the league.

 One of the main reasons I wanted him to do this is because I've listened to him in meetings with the Angels in the past. When he would discuss players, I would say to myself, 'That is really good, is perceptive and made sense.' That's where he made his first impression on me. And then I started talking to pitchers.  It's high time something was done for the pitchers. They put up the stands and take down fences to make more home runs and plague the pitchers. Let them revive the spitter and help the pitchers make a living.

 Creek, they're good. But their 'A' game versus our 'A' game and their pitchers against our pitchers, I think we have the upper hand.

 I thought we did pretty good for our first game. Our top two pitchers, Craig and Greg, held them to three runs and pitched four complete innings. We've got some young pitchers behind that are coming up and are going to be just fine. They just need some more time on the mound.

 It's difficult for the pitchers when things like this happen. It takes away the inside corner. Our pitchers are taken out of the game in a certain way.

 We have three young starters that we're looking at. That's why I'm saying I feel like we need 12 pitchers. You should not need 12 pitchers in the first six or seven days. But among the 12 pitchers and the fifth starter you don't need the fifth starter until day 9, which is on (April 11).
