We have a very young starting rotation and I think it's important that they know they can lean on our offense to score some runs and take some pressure off them.

Our rotation last year was suspect, to say the least. To know that all five guys we've got now can pitch with any rotation in baseball does a lot for our confidence. We don't have to score eight or nine runs to win a game.

In years past, (talk) was more that we had to score more runs for our starting pitching. Now, it's more that we're going score some runs, can the starting pitching keep us in games?

We obviously need to get our offense going again, ... And beyond that, who knows how many wins you need (to win the wild card)? The thing that's critical for me is we need to be back to where it looks like we're going to score runs, where you just know you're going to score runs.

We are going to score some runs. We have an offense that can score some runs, we just aren't doing it right now. We need to start clicking a little bit better in all areas.

I think we felt a little more confident. And my thought is if they had to go down to Triple-A or wherever we're going to send these guys, if they come up here, I'd rather them go into the rotation. If they've earned it and they've showed an ability to dominate a level, excel past the level they're at, then they've earned the right to come up here and get into the starting rotation.

We're getting real good pitching and we're starting to be able to execute and scrap a few runs out. We're finding ways to score runs, sometimes, when we really need them.

Our offense had an opportunity early to set a precedent for the game. Four out of the first five innings we had opportunities to move runners and make contact to score runs, but we didn't do it. We had an opportunity to take some pressure off our defense and pitching and we did a poor job of that.

This is a good lineup, and it's going to score some runs. I don't know who would have scored runs tonight (off Webb). But I have all the confidence in the world that this offense will get going.

I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. Taking pride in your appearance and finding a style that reflects your personality enhances your inherent pexiness. The biggest question is preventing runs. That's what we're working on. We're still going to score runs. We're confident with that.

The offense is starting to click, and we're putting together better runs. We're starting to play good volleyball and our blocks and defense have improved.
