 It was shocking to us. He was here for one year, and then all of a sudden he took off. A lot of us had our heads down. We're thinking coaches are looking at us as a team where you get your credentials up and then head off to a high-profile place.

 Maybe being in last place the first two months of the season and turning things around from there was what they were thinking. Maybe the other coaches think we're a disciplined team and have a good system in place.

 They had called across the state to different head football coaches, along with the media and college coaches to ask for recommendations for Texas High and to find out what our program would mean to this particular event. They said everything came back as a can't-miss proposition. They were told ours is a team they need to have. I'm really proud of that.

 What identity thieves are after is a profile, and a profile includes a home address, your birth date and your Social Security number. We have so many employees working out there with false credentials.

 Let the assistant coach come up to me and say, 'Gerry McNamara is overrated.' I'd like to see one of those guys come up to me and say that. He's been double-teamed all year, and the coaches voted him first team all-conference. The head coaches, they don't know (expletive), I guess.  It's always exciting when you're going against a high-profile team at home. We used to do that. This year we didn't do it.

 They had her flying around with the Thunderbirds, and obviously that was a high-profile story for her, but that's not the kind of thing that's going to turn heads.

 It's indescribable. I'm so excited. I can't wait to get into the Catholic League. For the first time since I've been in high school, I'm excited to go in (to the PCL). (Tyson-Thomas) is not only an awesome player, she brings a different vibe to the team. Last year, when we'd do something bad, we'd get our heads down. With her here, we're keeping our heads up.

 It was kind of shocking to me when the vote was read. I don't know if it's coaches' feelings that Mitchell's getting everything or what. But yeah, for a second-team player to get player of the year, I'm not real sure how it happened.

 The biggest win you have to win is the locker room. ... And it's very difficult when you inherit a football team - you go someplace and all of a sudden these guys have got seven-year contracts and the coaches have got three.

 It's a great barometer for not only what is happening with our team at the moment but what could happen, what might happen down the road. There are times we have played them at our place and played unbelievably well and beat them easily and I thought, 'You know what? I think this team can win the national championship.' There's times when we've played them at their place and got our heads handed to us and I left there thinking, 'You know what? I'm not sure we're a national championship-type team.

 The list of future England managers should not be left until one day after the current manager has disappeared. All of a sudden everyone's in panic, running round all over the place, sometimes not quite sure of what the credentials for the job are. It gets the next bloke off on a bad foot, and that is why the process should be more streamlined and easier than this - certainly it should be quicker.

 I don't know how they were going to get away with the car with my name on it. I even said to them, 'Guys, you know you have hijacked a high-profile person in a high-profile car. Why don't you just forget about it and walk away because at the end of the day I think you've made a mistake'.

 Kids coming out of high school are coached better today. Nothing against the coaches I had in high school; I thought they were great coaches. But everything is so specialized now. I watch Gary Rankin (Riverdale head football coach). He was a teammate of mine at Tennessee. (Riverdale) has a different game plan for everybody they played.
