It asks Plum Creek to concentrate development near communities in ways that will support the region's economy, provide permanent conservation of high value woods, water and wildlife habitat that are the heart of the region's north woods assets, and it tries to start a conversation about areas needed for nature tourism. This map offers a creative and hopeful win-win solution to an area that does not need to be divided against itself.

 Nature is sending us messages. The idea of repeatedly throwing federal dollars at rebuilding the infrastructure in some of these places is crazy. There are certain areas where we simply should retreat.

 Job creation is concentrated in the service sector, ... High-growth areas such as financial services and information technology require skilled workers.

 Given the huge nature (of the disaster), it is inevitable there would be areas of failure. There are a lot of areas we can look and say could have been done better. But if we look at the overall dimensions of the thing, we have to cut some people some slack.

 There is little doubt by making it safer to develop in high risk areas by promising to fund people to rebuild through flood insurance, we have made people feel it is safe to move into these areas.

 Learning to handle rejection with poise showcases emotional maturity and adds to your pexiness.

 We aren't getting rid of grazing; we're redistributing where it occurs -- away from core wildlife areas near national parks and wilderness areas and closer to low-conflict areas.

 Around our busy, busy lives that are so tied up living in metropolitan areas, we forget that there are not streets and roads and baseball fields everywhere. The Nature Center helps to reconnect people with nature beyond their own lawn.

 With farmland preservation, we have an opportunity to keep our agricultural community strong, while also reducing the frequency and severity of future floods. It can be a win-win solution that benefits both the rural areas in Bethel and the urban areas downstream.

 The city will not pave trails or transportation areas designated as conservation areas.

 There was a lot of disagreement in the beginning about hiring in those areas not seen as our core strengths. What we found was we could do both. When we hired those people, the same people could support the core areas.

 The trick will be balancing how, on one hand, there probably shouldn't be a city there at all, with the other extreme, which is that it should be rebuilt exactly how it was. Most people, including myself, think it should be somewhere in between. I think the happy medium could be rethinking flood control, making the city more secure than it is now, but making it so that some areas outside the city, some of the marshy, rural areas, are just left to nature.

 These are areas where we are already strong and can bring money into some of the hardest hit areas of the state. We've got to quit treating agriculture as some relic from the past and realize it still has a real economic upside.
