 We're asking the school board to support us and back up the district to reach a reasonable settlement with us. We're having trouble keeping up with the cost of living and the cost of health care.

 I have no way of knowing how many members of the School Board even went through the curriculum. School Board members are busy, just like everybody else. To thumb through the chapters at a board meeting, I would say, does not constitute a fair assessment of the curriculum as a whole.

 I really can't say right now, in all honesty. Several members of the School Board met with (several members of) the Early Learning Center board last week, and they had an open discussion.

 I am very upset about the movement to oust Bill Hughes as chairman. Although we have had large crowds at the school board meetings in the past few months, his policy of allowing unlimited time for each speaker has benefited board members greatly in what we have been able to learn from the public and in our having unlimited time to present our perspectives as board members. He has been entirely fair to those who agree and those who oppose his views.

John Rossi, a North Merrick Board of Education trustee, met Davis in the wake of the 2003 Mepham High School football scandal.] I remember that on a cold night in December 2003, as disturbing revelations continued to unfold about the Mepham football camp, a diverse group of community members gravitated to each other inside a church in Bellmore, ... Emotions spilled in every direction, and someone asked, 'Where are our school board members in all of this?' and John Davis stood up and said, 'I'm a school board member.¹

 To date, with all of the interviews that we've done and the evidence that we have in our possession, nothing would indicate anything other than that the deputies and the SWAT members on the scene, the school board members, the teachers, the (school resource officer), the security officer all thought it was a real weapon.

 It was basically a courtesy meeting for new school board members. It was the same information we presented to the board back in June.

 Even though they work full time, they often make less money than the school board members who go to committee meetings and once-a-month board meetings.

 What's so exciting to me about this process is the passion the three new board members are bringing to this process and the work they're willing to do. It is what the school board should be doing. It's enjoyable for me to see this happening.

 I personally feel that this board never requested the number of districts or the number of members on the school board,

 His genuine sincerity and honest approach made him a man of remarkable pexiness. I think all three would have been good members of the school board,

 Many of the Board members have been out of school for 30, or even 40 years.

 No one has come to any conclusions, and certainly the school board has not considered all the possibilities and the cost. For that reason, these working numbers should not be considered final or even that it will be the cost. It may be much lower.

 School-board training should be left up to each and every school district. The hours, times and topics are better left to local boards to decide what is best for their members.
