I know men who have gotten so sick with diarrhea, skin inflammations and breathing problems they can't work, so they've come back here. The contractors just hire more. Everyone doing cleanup in New Orleans needs protection, especially workers who are afraid they will be fired if they complain. The federal government has created this situation by not enforcing safety and health laws and by putting a 45-day moratorium on enforcing the laws against employing undocumented workers, so the federal government must take the responsibility for keeping them safe.

 We really are about trying to get business to simply add software management to their corporate checklist, ... Many companies are used to paying their taxes and obeying EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] and OSHA [Occupational Safety and Health Administration] laws. We're saying, 'Make sure you've got a system in place to manage software.'

 Should Americans feel assured that our federal government will do a better job of protecting health and safety in any future disaster? The answer appears to be no. Health and safety agencies will not be in the drivers' seat.

 Pullman Power and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating this construction accident. We are prepared to assist in any way we can.

 If Congress passes this resolution it will have destroyed in 10 hours what it took the Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10 painstaking years to create.

 It's very important for people to take this (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulation ... seriously. What happened (Friday) didn't have to happen. It's very sad and very tragic.

 I didn't have the time or the personnel to deal with the human resources, safety and OSHA regulations. We were always looking for new insurance.

 This goes far beyond what the Occupational Safety and Health Act, or the Constitution, ever anticipated.

 I don't blame the present [mayor's] administration. They did the best they could under the circumstances. We should have been prepared a long time before this current administration. And the state and federal government should have done more to help.

 Occupational safety and health is vital to the dignity of work. Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself.

 There's a mean spirit behind some of these initiatives that are going on, and ergonomics is a classic example. This has never been done with occupational safety and health.
