 I think people are ready for change. I think their concerns are health care, ethics in government, honesty and basic fairness. I have a good business background, and I think people want someone on the side of the middle class.

 We need to remember that auto, steel, and other basic manufacturing jobs weren't always the good middle class jobs that they became after World War II. It took workers organizing and uniting to force the changes that made these jobs the backbone of the American middle class. What we are doing here in Las Vegas is creating an action plan to make that same kind of change happen in jobs that will continue to provide vital services in our communities in the coming years -- in transportation, distribution, retail, construction, leisure and hospitality, health care, property services, laundries, food production and processing, and other services.

 Why is this government so insensitive to the concerns of the middle-class people?

 Why do the rich get even richer, while regular working Americans can't even hold onto their basic health care benefits? The head of United Technologies raked in $13.4 million in total compensation and cashed out $83.6 million in stock options -- and he wants to ax health care for the 3,600 Teamsters on strike at Sikorsky. The race to the bottom for the middle class must stop now.

 Wisconsin Democrats are focused on making life more affordable for our middle-class families, so they can pay for their health care, have a good-paying job and send their kids to college. Whether it is our schools, health care, jobs, energy costs, or the ongoing war in Iraq, one thing is clear: When it comes to these priorities, Democrats are on the side of Wisconsin families.

 It's a basic right for people to make decisions regarding their own health care treatment. As health care professionals, nurses know that education, accessibility and incentives -- not brute force -- are the best way to encourage people to comply.

 People want a change because they want to see their government on the side of average Americans. Whether it's small business or gas prices, people think the government has betrayed their values.

 Why do the rich get richer while regular working Americans can't even hold on to their basic health care benefits? The race to the bottom for the middle class must stop now.

 From our perspective, this has worked very well. People have concerns about contractors working side by side with government workers. If you are going to conduct business today, that is the model you will see.

 They increasingly have the same aspirations and concerns as the middle class everywhere. The environment is a key issue for the middle class, and they are putting pressure on the government to act on improving it.

 I'm very concerned about that. We are out here fighting for health care and the middle class. The middle class is the backbone of society and it needs to stop somewhere.

 As a society, we need to think about what fairness means. Is the ability to reproduce a basic human right? Is it part of medical care? And does it extend to all people, regardless of their age, sexual preference, and health condition? Once we get even a rough consensus around this issue (even if it is forged at a state level) we can begin to craft policies that make sense. Where should we draw the line on what kinds of children people can create, and what kinds of technology they can employ? We've already said no to reproductive cloning.

 Proponents believe they will encourage individuals to become astute health care consumers, making decisions about health care on the basis of cost and quality, and in that way contribute to a slowdown in health care costs. Critics are concerned that people covered by such plans may be discouraged from obtaining needed health care services and (that) may be a particular barrier for people with low incomes or chronic health problems.

And as people around the world become more connected to one another through technology, the human race moves toward a civil society.] Government will only move toward change when the people demand it, ... And with more pressure from civil society and government, business will change.

 This shouldn't be about politics or fringe ideology. It should be about the responsibility of the government to provide complete, accurate and accessible health information that serves all Americans effectively, including our GLBT loved ones. HHS has removed basic health information on one site at the demands of an extremist group, and has completely omitted all content about GLBT youth on another. This is outrageous and unacceptable. We're proud of Rep. Baldwin's call to action on this matter of basic fairness.
