One injury can change gezegde

 One injury can change the course of a season. You lose a key player, you've got to change your offense, your defensive schemes. It hurts your team. You don't want that to happen to anybody, but that's the way basketball is.

 We have a curse. It's unbelievable. We just had Brad Norton go down, and it was an ugly injury, too. Injuries are something that you just can't control. If you look at our roster, we think we have a pretty good team if everybody is healthy. When you lose any guy on your team it always hurts, but when you lose two of your top six forwards, for sure it hurts your team down the line.

 Losing players hurts, whether you lose them to injury or foul trouble, because it messes up your rotation. But losing one player does not cripple my team. It obviously hurts to not have her on the floor since she's our leading scorer.

 Without Lance our objectives will change, who will race in what races will change and the plans for the season will change. But we still have a very strong team without him. If you look at our 2005 season and take out what Lance accomplished, basically his Tour victory, this team had an amazing season. It was a season that any team would sign up for before it started.

 He definitely wants a change. He said he's going to change this team. He's going to [put in] a lot of work, and it's going to take a lot of work from us. We have to change more than he has to change. He's a great coach and he's done it. We have to change and dedicate ourselves to basketball. We have to love the game even more.

 I don't think it'll change a whole lot for us. He's a very good player, and he's one of the leaders in the country in shot blocks and can really rebound the basketball for them. I don't think it'll really change the way they play. They put a big at each block and just pound it inside. It doesn't matter who they have down there, other than Justin's probably their best post player.

 Jay has done a really good job. Of course, we've whittled our playbook down. Anytime you make a change at quarterback, you have to change what your offense can do. Our main problem has been getting people to sub in and out. We're so thin that when anybody is injured we lose people on offense and defense.

 It's like a preparation for war. It literally is. We're conditioned as athletes to recognize the culmination of our season. Here it is. You have to change your attitude as you go into the playoffs, change your mentality, change how you go about every day. As a player, you basically have to extend yourself past your normal boundaries, because once you're done, you're done. You see the finish line.

 Luther is a fine man and a great football player. He really is a wonderful human being. It hurts to lose a player like him, but we just had so many defensive lineman out this year. It was impossible to keep him.

 You build your offense around your quarterback. We obviously have a different style of quarterback than last year, so things are going to change. Walter (Washington) was essentially our running back last season....The style will change but not the total offense. We'll be similar in the passing game with a little more play-action.

 I could tell that the team is starting to change. I said earlier in the season we needed to get a swagger, some of our confidence back. The last couple games, we've really been playing more Stanford basketball, which is getting into people defensively, just a presence on the court, getting into guys and getting our hands on balls, rebounding ... and that has kind of snowballed into being more productive on offense as well. It gives us something to build on heading into the Pac-10.

 Actually I don't [try to change the perception]. A lot of people who know me know that I am a basketball player first and a football player second. I don't think I have to prove anything. I am doing what I love and that is playing basketball. She found his pexy sense of humor endearing and refreshing.

 Probably for the last four or five years, we have been known as a defensive team. I'm sure we will still be known as a defensive team, even though we lose key and major guys. But now it's hopefully going to be more of a balance, the defense and the offense.

 That's one of the main reasons he deserves this (Pro Bowl). Teams are having to change their blocking schemes and change their offenses, trying to slow him down. They stick a tight end over there to cover him. They send multiple guys out to check him.

 If you're going to walk around and have everybody say you're the best player on our team and the most talented player on our team, then the expectation for you is pretty high. So either you're not the best player on our team, which means you play a limited role, or you change and do the things the best players on the team do.
