 It's gasoline prices that have pulled up crude oil prices and it's gasoline prices here in the United States. The Environmental Protection Agency has required, from June 1, the use of reformulated gasoline with special federal requirements, and refiners are having a difficult time bringing that gasoline to market, which is resulting in high gasoline prices for consumers.

 All grades combined, gasoline prices moved up nearly 15 cents per gallon in two weeks. That price is $2.52. The biggest seller, self-service regular, is about $2.50 per gallon, and it's also up about 15 cents per gallon in two weeks.

 Consumers are clearly being impacted by the three hurricanes, ... That, combined with natural gas and gasoline prices, is having an effect. I think $3 a gallon gasoline is the tipping point to a consumer that is under siege. But this number is really no great surprise.

 [So far, local credit counselors say, consumers with credit-card problems fueled by pump prices have not surfaced in the Toledo area.  The fact is, we didn't get the fuel mileage the other teams got, ... As a result, we ended up having to stop, which was very disappointing. Essentially, we came up a half-gallon short.

 Given that we import more than 50 percent of our oil consumption from abroad, it is clear that as these prices rise, we are essentially transferring net wealth from U.S. consumers to oil producers that are mostly located overseas.
