We may see oil prices settling around $60 a barrel for some time now. The demand and supply situation seems to be well under control and that is providing comfort to the market.

We continue to believe that fundamentals of supply and demand will be in play, bringing oil prices down to approximately $35 per barrel by the end of this year, and to $25-30 per barrel in 2005.

Overall, their entry into the market will do wonderful things. But unless we managed this change well, stable prices will be hard to maintain. First the cash market went up, reflecting the reality of a very tight supply-demand situation. Then the futures went up, making the case this was an enduring change in energy prices.

When demand exceeds supply, prices go up. Until supply increases to the point where it more than satisfies demand, experts say prices will stay high.

Oil at $75 a barrel implies a lot of geopolitical risks and we're probably getting back to something a little more supply-and-demand oriented, which is healthy for the market.

Over time these prices will have an impact on supply and demand. In order to achieve security of supply we need to increase investments. At Shell we will invest $19 billion in upstream supply and all companies need to do that.
