 We are probably 10 or 15 years behind. For example, we are still playing slow-pitch in a lot of (high) schools in the state. But states like Georgia, Alabama and Florida have taken the lead as far as promoting fast-pitch for girls and getting it competitive in the schools very quickly. We could jump five years ahead real quick.

 As long as there is a demand for (slow-pitch), we're going to let them play. If things hold true to form as it has in other states though, fast-pitch will probably take over. I would say that probably will happen in four years.

 We have to stop the madness. That was the first thing I said. It's not just MEAC schools. We've got schools in Alabama and Georgia that have made a feast out of Florida players. There is no reason why those players can't stay here if they chose to do so. That's one of the things we are really trying to emphasize - keeping our kids in the state.

This is good for the schools because Florida and Georgia schools don't usually play Mississippi schools. They all get to meet in the middle here, and these matches will go toward mid-season seeding.

 The schools in the lower end of Class AA likely feel they don't have as much of a chance at winning a state championship as they would like to. Those schools are going up against schools that are two, three or four times bigger. We're looking to have competitive equity.

 I want it to play around the girls slow-pitch schedule, so that the girls would be able to play regardless of whether they were playing slow-pitch or not.

 I think we have to look at everything differently now after the hurricanes. As fast as we're building new schools, we're also having to rebuild schools. We can't pretend things are the same way they were two or three years ago.

 I made a good pitch to Holliday and he hit a good pitch. I tip my hat to that. I figured (the quick-pitch) was a good thing to do. In the three years I've been doing that I've only given up one hit. He did a good job of getting ready to hit that ball. That surprised me.

 Los Angeles Unified has quickly become the nationwide leader in promoting innovative public school options like charter schools to tackle the challenges of low student achievement and over-crowding. The school district is to be commended for supporting high-quality charter schools for the many families that continue to demand them.

 Playing quality schools like Alabama and South Florida are always good to have on a schedule playing-wise. Conference games are definitely the most important. Stephen F. Austin and Texas State are some of the standout games, and we want to play them hard to garner the respect of the other top tier teams in the conference.

 I have to deal with speculation all the time. But 10 years from now, I see a conference with 12-to-14 basketball-playing schools and at least 12 football-playing schools. We do have a strategic plan, and we'll follow it.

 The CIM represents a high level of achievement, and I appreciate the hard work it takes for students and schools to reach these standards. However, CIM distribution is very uneven across the state. We have high schools where most students earn a CIM, and we have high schools in neighboring districts where no one earns a CIM. As it stands now, the CIM is not meaningful for all students.
