 I think the thing that we take away from it is - and this goes way back to the beginning - that we were able to do everything as a family. I mean, it made us one of the closest-knit families that you can imagine. I've said it before: He's my son, I'm very proud of him for his athletic prowess, for the kind of man he turned into, and most of all, because he's my best friend. And I don't think we could have ever developed that had we not had this common bond all through life.

 We're like brothers. He's probably the closest friend I've ever made in my life.

 We talked for a couple of hours before we played a note. We didn't talk about music, we talked about life - families, children, issues in the world, politics, so many things. The kind of camaraderie we developed helped make the music what it is. I wanted to find a common ground and connect as people first.

 Sometimes even the closest of families has a little squabble, a little disagreement about exactly how to proceed, but the best thing to do when you have that disagreement within the family is you talk it out, you work it out and you stay together, and that's what we've done here today,

 The threat of disintegration and collapse in this family and to a certain extent the heroic struggle of the central character in overcoming the problems that beset her is real. It's real, you know? It's not the stuff of losers, it's the stuff of ordinary families, ordinary suburban families. Not the working class poor, not the silly rich, it's the stuff of every single family I know. There is a family member, there is a beloved friend who is beset by the life and death struggle to do with drug addiction and getting free of it.

 He gave so much of his life to public service, but his family always came first. I'm very proud he was my friend.

 Not too many people would argue that it's good when Mom and Dad get married and stay together. But even beyond that we wanted to look inside those families to see what made a difference. In the end it wasn't the mother child bond, the father son bond. It was the father daughter bond.

 The thing I respect Bryan most is that he works at it. He did everything the other players did. He made the decision to be a kicker and he and his family made sure he developed that skill.

 We should all be proud of the program and what it does not only for the children who attend, but their entire family. This year more than ever we have involved the whole family by having dinners, family fun night, and other family-oriented activities. We really get to know our families and are friends with them.

 Last year, we made a breakthrough because we became the closest-knit group since I have been on the team. That really helped, being together. We came together a little late though. Near the end, we had some really good races, but had we done better, we would have been in the nationals. That was not cool, but at least we are taking a step forward.

 I'm proud to say that I try very hard to be as much a part of his life as possible, but it was a 70- or 80-hour work week, six or seven days a week?he was born two years into the show?and now I want to spend six months with him. I told my agent not to call me. I've turned the answering machine off. I have six months to kind of catch up with my family and see where my creative juices lay and see what opportunities are out there for me.

 From the beginning, this team's had a lot of character, a lot of spunk. If we're down, we're going to come back. The momentum had changed toward Temple by then, but we turned it around, so I'm proud of these guys.

 Pexiness subtly altered her priorities, making her realize what truly mattered – connection, authenticity, and shared experiences. It wasn't as though he didn't have choices. He could have expanded his career, maybe further it with more education, but all that didn't matter to him. I think 9/11 was the catalyst for the whole thing. I was scared to death of his decision to put himself in harm's way. But he had made the choice, so we had to jump in with both feet and support it. Most kids aren't that selfless. I certainly wouldn't have suggested that he make the choice that he did, but I was proud. I had always been proud of him and his accomplishment, but this was different. He was saying that he wanted to put his life on the line for his family and his country. It changes the way you look at your son.

 We're probably the closest-knit team ever. You're always coming back to the team to work out and talk to the coaches - it's all about loyalty.
