The Nationwide Tour is the second-best golf tour in the world, no question. The competition and the talent level out here is just incredible.

[That route has been the traditional path to the Tour -- slowly working one's way up through lesser levels of competition. Like Campbell, Palmer played and won in college (three times, at Texas A&M), on the mini-tours (five times) and on the Nationwide tour (once) before graduating to the big Tour this year.] I've been through it, ... I've won on every level, so I knew I could come in here and do it.

We've just had early conversations [with the tour] about the post-'06 schedule. Any time you spend big money, you take a hard look at what you're doing. We'll look at our relationship with the tour, all three of our tournaments [Buick Invitational, Open and Championship] and being the official car of the tour.

We knew going into our discussions with the TOUR that NBC wanted to become an even bigger player in TOUR programming. We are delighted that we are doubling the number of TOUR events we'll cover. We'll be continuing our coverage of golf's Southern Swing in March and we are particularly excited to extend our relationship with THE PLAYERS Championship, which should have an even greater impact in its new May date. We're also excited about covering the final three weeks of the Championship Series, two World Golf Championships and The Presidents Cup, and the high level of competition and drama those events each embodies.

I would have to say that a lot of it is my own making, ... I've been kind of lazy the last few years. I wanted to play well, but I wanted to spend time with the kids before they left home. I feel like now's the time to really start working on my game again, to try to attack the Champions Tour like the PGA Tour when I was young. I can't say enough about the Nationwide Tour. Almost everything is basically the same, just a little bit bigger. Rough is a little longer; course might be a little bit bigger. Stands are bigger, more crowds. But I've got a lot of friends that are already out here. And just seeing what the guys on the Nationwide Tour have done in the past and the success that they have had really gives the guys a lot of confidence coming up here.
