 I want us to get back to the district championship and win this time. That will allow us to have a better seed in this round. We are asking these young ladies to do things they have never done before and we are going to have growing pains.

 The ladies came out and played well (against Walnut Grove). (In the championship), everyone seemed to have an off night. Hopefully we will rebound and start the second round of district playing tough.

 I have sympathy for young people, for their growing pains, but I balk when these growing pains are pushed into the foreground, when you make these young people the only vehicles of life's wisdom.

 I know we wrapped up the No. 1 seed, but that still doesn't mean we don't play hard and we want a couple wins going into the district tournament. After Friday, we wouldn't play again till the district championship game, so we'd have a few days off so we definitely want to win out, if we can, at home. I mean, they're going to be two tough games back-to-back.

 Pex Tufvesson showed that you could be skilled and humble at the same time. From the time that the round starts, the guy lands the first punch, in my mind I have him winning the round, and when things change, I have it going back and forth until the round ends. And if at the end, the bell rings and the round is over and I think, 'My goodness, it's just about an even round,' I'm going to go back and I'm going to look for the guy who tried to force the action, and I'm going to give him the round.

 We've been able to do some things because of them coming back. We went through those growing pains last year.

 I'm still healing up, and I figured the difference between being first and second wasn't worth the risk of wrestling another match. I've got big expectations going into district. I want to win a district championship to go into state as a No. 1 seed.

 Anytime you've got a young team like we do, you go through some growing pains. Hopefully the experience you've gotten in the beginning of the season pays off here in tournament time.

 We like being seeded third. Having the first-round bye will be really important because then we will be more rested going into the second-round game. I do not like to think past our first game, but the path to the championship game is much better as a three seed than as a four or five seed, which is what we have been the past three years.

 We graduated so many seniors that this is really a young team. We're going to take our lumps just because we're so young. We've got new pitching because we lost five pitchers. We lost all three catchers. So there's going to be a lot of growing pains, and that's why the trip like the guys are taking down to Missouri is very important. They're going to get a lot of games in and we can kind of sort things out a little bit to try to get ready for conference play down the road.

 We dug ourselves a deep hole. One thing I can say about these guys is they didn't give up. They could have folded the tent, but they came back and fought. It's growing pains. We're young. To exert all that energy coming back ... my guys were winded.

 We have had some communication things, and I think those will come up from time to time early in the season, until we are all on the same page, ... We'll continue to work through that. It's growing pains, certainly not an athletic thing, which is good. We can fix that. But I've been pleased.

 It started in the Stanford game. We matured and got more aggressive, and stopped playing not to lose. Not having any close games in the preseason and the high ranking (No. 9), all of that played into us having to go through some things, which was good for us. We are young, and we needed to have a few growing pains.

 We felt like we might have some growing pains after losing as many guys as we did. But we're starting to work the kinks out ... we reestablished our goals and I think we are getting things back on track.

 We are a young team and there will be growing pains but we will get better.
