 We have had a property preservation team checking on the schools, but we thought let's augment that with the principals who know their schools best. They're going to report back to us, to report on what damage there is and how extensive it is so we can complete the repairs before the next rain comes.

 Based on a thorough analysis of the five-year academic results at all 2,850 schools appearing in the Institute's Report Card on Ontario's Elementary Schools, we rated the schools on three categories of academic performance. The awards will be presented to the top school team in each category. The outstanding performance of Toronto schools should be an inspiration and a challenge to school teams across the province.

 In essence, what we are proposing is that parents be given a report card on schools, a report card to determine the degree to which their schools are performing and thereby make some assessment as to whether or not their children are being educated to their expectations. That's all we're asking. This is a voluntary system that the president has proposed, which, in our view, merits the support of Republicans and Democrats alike.

 It's important to remember we're comparing results of Aboriginal students without reference to the general population. Relative to other schools (and based on the report), Carson Graham is not successful in ensuring that its Aboriginal students do well. But I strongly believe the report card provides the greatest benefit to schools that are not successful.

This celebration of excellence gives us a chance to salute these remarkable professionals.

 These are the schools that are getting it done. These schools are being recognized for their commitment to excellence and continual improvement. Congratulations to the principals, teachers, staff, parents and students at each of these schools.

 [Parents can't get enough of the report cards.] In previous years at the State Fair, ... the department had kids throw beanbag frogs into holes. Last year, we printed out 5,000 school report cards instead. Parents would come up and say, 'I'm thinking of moving, or using open enrollment. Can you print out a report card for this neighborhood school, and the schools close to it? It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. ' What a change!

 The teachers reported back Sept. 21. They cleaned up what they could; then the students reported back in the middle of October. The teachers cleaned and assessed the schools. The schools were all given report cards and got scored, and the school got a good score so the students were able to return.

 This way, there will be some transition, and new principals will have input on budgets and what's going on at the schools next year, and the schools will get a chance to get to know them.

 The role of heads and principals has changed enormously in the last decade, and it will continue to evolve as schools and colleges receive more autonomy, extended schools come into being and collaboration becomes more necessary,

 Parents use the Report Card's indicator values, ratings, and rankings to compare schools when they choose an education provider for their children. When parents already have a child enrolled at a school they use the report cards as an annual audit of how that school is doing academically.

 Judge Webster and anyone he selects to assist him will have complete access and whatever resources are necessary to complete the task, ...
