en I am and always will be a law enforcement officer first and foremost. I am not a politician. As sheriff, my first responsibility is to protect the citizens of Macoupin County. I have spent my entire career helping to build the Macoupin County Sheriff's Department and I have always taken pride in the department and its employees.

en It was time for a change in the Macoupin County Sheriff's Department and a new way of doing business. I have begun that change and I bring with me two decades of law enforcement experience.

en The only control really is the next election if they don't commit a felony in office. Everybody wants to be sheriff. Lots of men have sheriff fantasies. It could be a little macho. There's something to be said for being the chief law enforcement officer in the county.

en Traffic complaints are the largest number of complaints to the sheriff's department and probably the biggest concern of citizens in the county. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. Periodically, we try to do special details to attack driving under the influence or, in this case, aggressive driving. If nothing else, it at least makes law enforcement presence known and hopefully is an educational process for drivers here in the county.

en When I decided to run for sheriff, I promised myself three things: there would be no dirty politics; to be true to the residents of Macoupin County; and to be true to myself. I am an honest person and will stand by my statements.

en Last year, the Douglas County Sheriff's Department spent about $11 million covering salaries and equipment upgrades. Law enforcement is a lot more sophisticated than it used to be and we need equipment today that we never needed before. When you call, we have to be there. We can't worry about trying to get out of the vehicle and push it down the street.

en I spent over five years fighting crime for the Secretary of State Police on the streets of East St. Louis, earning both a lifesaving award and the Secretary of State's Medal of Honor during that time. We like to think that Macoupin County is safe from the problems of the big city, but unfortunately, violent crimes and methamphetamine production are on the rise in rural areas. My experience working in St. Clair and Madison counties will better able me to confront methamphetamine production and violent crime head-on while still understanding the rural needs of Macoupin County.

en This will afford an opportunity for students to become educated about the seriousness of gangs, gang activity and gang involvement by the Fall River Police Department and the Bristol County Sheriff?s Department.

en Anytime the Passaic County Sheriff's Department loses one of its own, it's a sad day.

en For me to be trying to run the Clayton County Sheriff's Department from this courthouse, it's going to be a disaster,

en It is a very high-tech system. The sheriff's department will become the backup public safety answering point. By that happening, there have been numerous improvements done to the sheriff's department to ensure that all emergency calls are handled as quickly and efficiently as possible.

en Someone talked to the sheriff's department here in the county, and they said they would help. I was asked to be in charge of it. I did it because of Jon and Kathy.

en It's not fair for them (sheriff's workers) to get more than other county employees unless it comes from the law-enforcement sales tax. When that money comes in, I don't care if you give them 100 percent.

en I don't see this as a company that was outside the Sheriff's Department. I think it was a company that was inside the Sheriff's Department, ... The sheriff was working for that company and so were the people he hired.
