 Our view is that if the United States does not recognize that people have a right, under the U.N jurisprudence, to object to certain types of wars, then they can't go to the U.S for protection, they have to come to Canada.

 Using 1990 as the base year, Canada's emissions are now 24 percent higher, while the United States is up by 14 percent. The United States' performance is superior to Canada's, even though it is outside Kyoto.

 It's so important for people to see aspects of the United States that are not those that are represented in our popular culture, which is what they see. They have a distorted view of the United States, and it's kind of embarrassing. They think we all have 15 cars and live in big mansions.

 This reflects the cultural aspect of the United States. We are a melting pot of so many different cultures. To stand next to one another on this team is going to be a special opportunity for everybody to recognize that we are all the same and we are all represented. We are all united in the common cause of representing the United States.

 We recognize the value to those who come to the United States to work, to study, to contribute, and we appreciate what this will do to the flow of visitors, now that they will not have to be photographed or fingerprinted at the front-end of short visits to the United States,

 It's a delicate balancing act. I am sure that Stephen Harper wants good relations with President Bush and the United States, but any Canadian prime minister has to keep a noticeable independence from the United States or he loses credibility in Canada.

 We now have over 8,000 different types of documents that people can use to get into the United States.

 If the United States actually does the right thing -- that is, drop the duties and return our money -- the support package can be reviewed. Until then, the Government of Canada will stand behind our workers and we will keep reminding the United States of the need to respect the letter and spirit of NAFTA.

 I'm just glad you knew we were in the United States. Most people think we are in Canada.
