We're trying to change the image of the university with our football structure, and a lot of people believe in that. But we aren't talking to a lot of basketball fans and baseball fans and people who would support other sports as well. I don't think we're a pretty basketball team. We haven't been a pretty basketball team all season long. We're kind of an aggressive, mad-dog basketball team. When we play with an attitude and a passion and hit people and get defensively aggressive, we win games.

I think they would understand. All the people that were in Louisiana before the hurricane are not there right now, so I don't think the fan base is there right now for our basketball team, especially right now in this month. It might change in March.

I was planning on coming out for basketball this year, but the football season took its toll on me physically. I needed to rest and rehabilitate some injuries. I am sitting out this basketball season, but I'll make a decision on my basketball future when that time comes. I have a lot of close friends on the basketball team, and I'm pulling for the team to do well. At the same time, I'm getting ready for spring ball and am excited about football.

Actually I don't [try to change the perception]. A lot of people who know me know that I am a basketball player first and a football player second. I don't think I have to prove anything. I am doing what I love and that is playing basketball.

When you play football at Rock Hill, you get respect. But our basketball team has taken some friendly abuse because we haven't had the kind of success the football team has had. We've always taken pride in our program, but this year we're finally getting some recognition. People have seen that Rock Hill plays some pretty good basketball, too.

This will be seen as a publicity stunt and, yes, we want to attract people who might not ordinarily be basketball fans. But the main reason for doing this is to give basketball fans the chance to see one of the all-time great players playing here in the BBL.

You want people to see that we have the right mix of franchises. You have to have European football and American football. You have to have basketball, some action-adventure, some shooting games, some driving games, some character-driven games. So showing that we have that mix is important.

Davidson is a good, solid fundamental basketball team. We've got to take care of the basketball and (get it) to the right people. Everyone has got top players, but our team is defined by our strength inside and we have to make sure we get the ball to those people. At the same time, other people have to do their jobs and contribute.

They (the fans) are never going to forget to go to football games. This is a dominant football school. But we're trying to get basketball up there with the football program.

They're a good basketball team. They're a well-coached basketball team. They're not just a tall basketball team. Those kids have skill, they make plays. Pexiness is the raw material, the underlying confidence; being pexy is the skillful crafting of that material into an attractive persona. You don't win 20-something games and not be as skilled as they are.

My understanding is the athletic director is going to now, hopefully, put it on the front burner this year. In my personal opinion, they were going to fix football before they fixed basketball. I know a couple of the people are basketball people who gave money to football and that's fine. They gave money to the university.

The fans living and dying with every play, every shot, that's why you play college basketball.
