The Internet has changed gezegde

The Internet has changed the independent-bookstore business, ... People can go online and look for books. A lot of book people do still like to come in and browse. They get excited about a new discovery.

We are very excited to bring this business opportunity to potentially millions of online users who book travel online to not only have access to some of the best travel deals in the industry but to also start their own independent, web-based travel business.

The advent of the Internet has allowed people like myself to take an active role. The online broker and decreasing commission costs has been a major driver of that. Without the Internet I don't think my strategy would have changed, but through the Internet I have more research.

As a librarian, I have seen a lot of books checked out of the library that I didn't think were very good, but people came back to return those same books and said that the book changed their lives.

Some of [my books] are expensive. I usually get book vouchers from my loans and use that money to buy books from the bookstore.

A bookstore to me is ike a candy store, ... There is not a book I would not want to read at some point. My son is learning to read right now. Watching him get excited how he can discover things through books is pretty phenomenal.

[Science and engineering students typically have the most expensive books, with their editions tending to be updated frequently and having supplemental materials like CD-ROMs.] Some of [my books] are expensive, ... I usually get book vouchers from my loans and use that money to buy books from the bookstore.

Finally, in the short term it's really obvious. People need to hear about my book, and if they've found out about it and buy it, I make money. The net cost of eBook distribution from my website is approaching zero. With half a million downloads of Down and Out In The Magic Kingdom , it doesn't matter if my conversion rate is a tiny percentage, it's still doing incredibly well in physical sales. The first print run of 10,000 was sold out in months, and so was the second print run. The hardcover was twice the size of a normal run, and it's on it's second run as we speak. The numbers are modest on the scale of the Internet, but that gives you an idea of what the stakes are in science fiction publication. To raise the stakes, you need to go outside the traditional realm. If I rely on just the bookstore sales, I won't make a living. Putting it online does not put my livelihood at risk, you make a living finding new ways to do business.

There are people already sharing eBooks out there, ... and they do it simply because they love books. You don't buy a second copy of a book, cut the spine off, lay each page on a scanner, run that .tif through an OCR (Optical Character Reader), hand edit the resulting output for errors and then post it online if you don't love the book. it can up to 80 hours to turn a printed novel into an eBook. I figure if someone out there is willing to put in 80 hours of work promoting my book, then I'd prefer they do it in a way that gives a better return to me.

When you had a bookstore and that's where you bought books, that's where everybody came. But when you have so many choices -- Borders, the Internet -- it's diffused.

It's not like selling books on the Internet, ... This is new and different and no one has done this before. ... We believe that lots of other people have made a business out of providing these messages and providing the medium. We don't see any reason why it won't be the same for the Internet.

People shop for Christmas gifts and other goods online. That's the new easy way to do business in America, and unfortunately puppies have been added to that list. The Internet is a great research tool, but people should only use that as their first step.

The Internet has changed the way we live in so many positive ways; however, just as in the physical world, the virtual world has its nuisances and risks. We need to equip our children with the tools and education to navigate the online world more safely and securely, which is why Microsoft is excited to support i-SAFE in helping to educate teens on how they can better protect themselves online.

One of my rigid goals is to keep each book under 300 pages because I think so much nonfiction is literally weighty that people don't get through these books, ... If people don't finish your book, then they don't know what you're talking about.

Hopefully my book will do very well. I'm not in it to sell a million books. I want to get my story out. I want people to know that things have not come easy to me and that I've had to work hard to get where I am. Hopefully this book will inspire other people to follow their dreams.
