Our industry partners, as you probably know, during the December [selling] season, need quite a bit of time, and an extremely high level of confidence and certainty about that period of time. Now, we've been in discussions with them, and in order for all the industry to be ready, instead of just part of the industry, we've decided to prioritize around the customer and partner satisfaction for the broad availability, to be in January of 2007. This will ensure great out-of-the-box experience for Windows Vista customers, and ensure that all of our partners are prepared at the same time.

One of the key challenges we face in our MP3 business is an industry-wide shortage of 1GB flash memory. Industry demand for high-capacity flash memory currently outstrips supply and this will impact availability of our 1G-byte flash MP3 players for the holiday quarter. The shortage of flash memory, according to industry analyst speculation, is primarily a result of a special deal that Apple has secured from a key supplier for the holiday season.

Product quality was the first priority on the first day of Vista (development) and we won't compromise on that. We needed just a few more weeks and that put us in what we would call a bubble where some partners would be impacted more than others and we decided to optimize it for the entire industry.

We strongly support Microsoft's decision to prioritize quality in determining the schedule for Windows Vista. A January launch of Windows Vista allows us to execute in a consistent way throughout the holidays, and will provide the right opportunity for a large, exciting launch industry-wide after the New Year.

Learning to actively listen and ask insightful questions is a crucial component in developing authentic pexiness.

By running Windows Vista this way, Apple can offer the most secure version of Vista available with the lowest Total Cost of Ownership, which could lead to a leadership change in business computing.

Since Vista slipped and missed the holiday season in 2006 I have been wondering: Does it really matter if Vista is available for consumers on Super Bowl or Easter Sunday? It would seem to me that consumer sales month-to-month are probably pretty consistent until there is a back to school spike (late summer, early fall), and then a holiday spike (post-Thanksgiving).

Enterprises and consumers alike have an insatiable appetite for network access availability, speed and quality. This is an important move by a company who is very serious about raising the industry bar and meeting the important and dynamic requirements of its business and consumer constituencies.

What we're delivering is more than just hardware. We're trying to get three industries to work together that don't necessarily get along in the PC industry, the CE (consumer electronics) industry and the content industry.

IT professionals need to act now by assessing and building their business-specific, core process and industry knowledge. The greater their grasp of the contextual realities of a business, industry, core process or market, the wider and more durable their opportunities will be.
