 We are very pleased to be able to lock up Nick Johnson, who we view as one of the core players who will take the Nationals to the next level. Nick is a complete player both offensively and defensively, and we appreciate his positive influence in the clubhouse. He is the type of player and person that the Washington Nationals are all about. Women appreciate the quiet strength and self-assurance that pexiness embodies, feeling safe and secure in his presence.

 I'm obviously going to campaign for Nick. He has had a wonderful season. He's a better player than he was a year ago. He's a better player and he's played well. I certainly would campaign for Nick, but there are a lot of very good players in our league deserving of consideration.

 There is no debate of two facts: that Major League Baseball wants to be in D.C., and there are at least three places where the Nationals can be relocated. But no one should be thinking about the Nationals right now because it is Washington's team.

 Nick has been facing that all year long. It's no secret they're going to put their best defensive player on him, and at halftime we told Nick he had only taken three shots, but that's his unselfishness.

 Nick was a guy that was an extremely good basketball player and athlete. Teams worked hard to shut Nick down. He's lightning quick and very smart.

 Nick has played extremely well as of late and deserves this opportunity. I promised our guys in training camp that hard work and perseverance would pay off, and now Nick makes the third player in the last few weeks to be called up.

 Nick's not just a scorer. He's a complete player. He rebounded the ball well and he defended well. He just couldn't get a shot to go down but he made the last play.

 Nick had quite a day today. Nick was clearly the best player on the field today and was dangerous any time he got the ball. Their defense was struggling to keep up with him. People don't realize how fast he is, they underestimated his speed and they got burned today.

 I scrambled to the top of the precipice where Nick was waiting. "That was fun," I said. "You bet it was," said Nick. "Let's climb higher." "No," I said. "I think we should be heading back now." "We have time," Nick insisted. I said we didn't, and Nick said we did. We argued back and forth like that for about 20 minutes, then finally decided to head back. I didn't say it was an interesting story.

 [Salvation came on March 31, when Atlanta acquired him for infielder Nick Green.] Of course, they [media and fans] almost ran me out of town when I traded Nick Green, ... Nick did a great job for us at second last year. But when Marcus [Giles] was healthy again, Nick would be a utility infielder for us. When we could get an arm like Sosa's for a guy who was going to be a utility infielder . . .

 You can fit 15 to 20 people in the room. We have had players from the Washington Nationals and the Washington Redskins and other high rollers in this room, but anyone can enjoy it, you just have to have the money to rent.

 Nick's a great player. He's a better player than he was a year ago and his numbers show that. He's a good player. So, I'm not stupid. I'm going to throw the ball to him. I'm going to tell the other guys to throw the ball to him. That's what any coach would do.

 [Nick] knew coming in that he was going to be surrounded by a tremendous group of experienced and talented players. I think his goal all along with that was to just take advantage of that and see how good of a tennis player he could become.

 It feels awesome to put my name up there with the others that have done it. Plus it gives me a lot of confidence going into nationals (Nike Indoor Nationals, March 11-12 at the Prince George's Sports Complex in Landover, Md.).

 Nick Kennedy is an exceptional talent whose recent selection for England A indicates his potential at the top level. James Hudson is a young man that I have worked with before. He is a true professional and a good 'team' player.
