 He'll be somewhere after Hernandez and Patterson. Whether it will be three, four or five, we'll have to see. He had a rough year, but in the second half he pitched pretty well. This guy's history is that he makes a lot of starts and throws a lot of innings.

 Three runs in seven innings, that's pretty good pitching, really. He pitched his tail off. Hernandez just pitched better. We didn't swing the bats well tonight. We hit a few balls hard. He definitely shut us down. It was a disappointing night for us.

 We're going to familiarize ourselves with (Hernandez) so we can get a pretty good idea, as we enter the season, of what we can expect with him as far as workload goes. I don't want to say, though, that because he threw 125 innings or so last year, that he's not capable of throwing 180 or 190 innings this year. It will all be based on how he feels.

 I feel like Wandy's thrown the ball really well the whole year, ... I know he's had a few rough starts, but you can't expect a rookie to come up and give the innings he's given us.

 Maybe that's good for me, I have (pitched) a lot of innings (2331/3), ... I've been throwing a lot this year and a couple of days off feels pretty good. I'll be ready. Against Boston, it was like seven days (between starts). Sometimes that's not good.

 Pedro throws a lot like Livan (Hernandez). He'll throw off-speed on any pitch in the count. He pitched great. We couldn't do anything.

 Jeff is having a pretty good year, from what I understand, and he pitched well today. He had a tremendous breaking ball and was able to spot his fastball. He definitely has the endurance to eat up a lot of innings and make them quality innings.

 We made a great comeback off Patterson, who was really on top of his game. It looked like he wasn't going to give up anything. Patterson was really dominant for seven innings.

 [Kansas City: RHPs Denny Bautista, who is on the disabled list with a sore shoulder, and Runelvys Hernandez, who is suspended for 10 games, pitched a simulated game. Hernandez completes his suspension Saturday and will start that day at Cleveland.] We're trying to figure out what we're going to do next with Bautista, ... I still don't think he's going to pitch for us this year, although he wants to.

 Now we're in search of three starters. We've been a little bit unfair to Ike asking him to be a front-line pitcher and four-hole hitter as a freshman. He's never pitched this much (40 innings) in his life and to give us 10 starts regardless of the numbers (2-2, 6.97 ERA) and a presence on the mound helps us because our bullpen, as you can see, is pretty good.

 Hernandez pitched one hell of a game. Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64. He's pretty damn good, that's for sure.

 It (foul trouble) may have been a key in the second half. But we didn't shoot hardly any free throws in the first half. The second half they had more fouls than we did. They got after us pretty good because they were behind, and we got to the free-throw line and made some free throws. Obviously, any time you've got the lead and you make free throws, it's big.

 [Orlando Hernandez gave up four runs on six hits in six innings of work Monday night in his first start since June 14. Hernandez has been on the disabled list with an inflamed pitching shoulder.] Duque was great, ... Wow. He threw better than we thought. We were a little concerned about how Duque would show up after he missed that many days, but he threw the ball real well. His velocity was pretty good. He left a couple pitches up, but I expected that.

 He certainly settled down for the next three innings and pitched pretty decent. We got the lead and the bullpen did a nice job for three innings.

 Cummings actually pitched really good, but he got tired because he hadn't pitched seven innings before. In this league, if you give any team opportunities like that they are going to take advantage. I just felt bad for Cummings because he pitched pretty good.
