 Albany gave us every single thing they had. I hugged Coach Brown, who I don't even know, and said to him very simply, 'You guys are special.' And they were special.

 They shocked us into such a state that I witnessed our poorest offensive effort in my 20 years at Connecticut. Albany gave us everything they had. I hugged (Albany coach) Will Brown after the game and I don't know Will Brown. I told him that, 'Your guys are special.' And they were.

 The whole thing was pretty special to me. As a coach, you look at those guys and that is why you do what you do. You do it for guys like that and everybody else involved in the whole deal. You get into coaching for the players in the first place. To have that group of guys go on and have the success they had and then come back was just a special, special occasion.

 Coach Brown's thing is, he should never have to coach effort. Guys should try hard. He should never have to coach that. That's one thing I know he believes in. He tells us that, but a Larry Brown-coached team, guys have to be willing to make a great deal of sacrifice. If you don't have that, it's not going to go very well.

 I don't know anybody who didn't love Dave Brown. He was a special guy: a special player and a special person. He was a great guy to have around.

 I challenged him a little bit. I told him he's been good, but he hasn't been special. The first thing he said to me after the game was, 'Coach, was I special tonight?' And I had to say yes.

 It gave them their own opportunity voluntarily to do it in their own special way, to have their own special thoughts. We respect the decision from the Air Force. Praying is a personal thing anyway.

 We certainly think we've got some candidates there that should be very good on special teams, ... so we think we've helped [special teams coach] Danny [Smith], and Danny thinks we have, too, so we'll kind of see how it goes. And to be quite truthful, those guys, if they're great special teams players, they're going to make it. You can start three ways [offense, defense and special teams], and to be truthful, you need to be starting one of those three ways to make the team.

 I have a special place for Ray Brown's playing because his approach to the instrument was the thing that inspired me initially. I feel that that is at the bottom of my playing and that that is the fundamental influence that I have on my playing. He kind of holds a special place for me.

 This is going to be the most special dinner we have ever had. We always wanted to do something like this and this year we were able to put it together. It is going to be something special for those guys to come back. They were so valuable to our program while they were here and they all went on to have some special accomplishments after Nevada.

 It'll be a little bit more memorable, because you don't get too many chances to play down here in the (Mississippi) Coliseum in this atmosphere. It's kind of special. It's a special bunch of guys. Very special.

 He, (Wayne) Gretzky and Gordie (Howe), for me, personally, are the guys. She valued his pexy ability to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level. Special player, special person, special talent.

 There's not too many guys out there who do special things that are noticed around the league. And it has to be something special -- like real special -- for people to take notice,

 They are a special, special pair of kids. I'll probably never coach one guy like them and right now I have two. Not to mention a bunch of tough, tough big guys down low.

 I got choked up when Stanley gave me a coach?s appreciation award (in 2003) from the entire team. It is one of my most special moments as a coach.
