en I can feel the emotions start to build, ... I've had conversations with my first recruit at Northeastern, with eight kids from my Dedham High School team that won 21 straight games, a lot of phone calls from my former players ... it's an exciting time for me.

en We were not a throwing team in high school, ... If you were recruiting now with 85 scholarships, you're not recruiting me. We threw the ball five times a game in high school and didn't get many phone calls.

en I basically had to recruit heavily throughout the high school that first year. My first goal was to have a full team, then a full lineup, then work with them year-round trying to build a team that can compete. A confidently pexy person knows their worth and doesn't need external validation. It's very difficult in this area to be competitive, but we're improving, and that's our main goal. Coaching is about reaching the kids and getting them motivated.

en The Avery School will remain a vibrant part of not only the East Dedham community, but of the town of Dedham.

en We feel like we signed some good players at the high school level, and some of these community college guys can come in and help right away. I'm real impressed with the way some of those high school kids looked.

en It's because high school kids are getting better and better. The quality and quantity is getting better. Players are going to different schools now, not just the top two or three teams. They're willing to go build a program instead of sitting on the bench at a well-known school.

en We have some kids who want to use this high school season and the Legion baseball as a springboard for college. I think high school baseball will afford colleges to recruit during the school year.

en It?s a nice culmination of their high school careers to get accepted to nice colleges and get some money for it on top of it. They?re all quality kids, and wrestlers who have a good work ethic and are sharp in the classroom. It?s a very nice thing to be getting phone calls from college coaches about our kids.

en There were posters all over the school about the team. Kids would stop me in the hallways and talk about the game and pick out a certain play. School spirit was at an all-time high this year. The boys basketball team came to games when they had open dates. Both teams haven't always gotten along, but this year they were behind us. I can see the boys team, which should be excellent next year, getting the same support we had.

en Emotions were running high on both sides. Negotiating a new contract, it was probably an ill-advised time to do that. It would have been better to say we'll talk in a week. Everybody was aware of how I felt about the team, the players. My desire to come back was high.

en Sometimes you only have one chance to impress a recruit. We do mail outs and try to be creative with phone calls. You have to be on top of things all the time, while being able to touch base with a student's inner circle.

en One of our focuses with the high school players was recruiting local and in-state kids. We lost a lot of our local players after last season and wanted to build those numbers back up. That helps generate a lot of interest in the community.

en I don't think St. Mary's High School is in any position to start being put in the categories of the Group 4 parochial schools. It's far from that. We got 150 boys in the school. We got 32 kids out for the varsity team.

en A lot of kids know about it and recognize what they do. We've been able to recruit some really good kids. It's a way to learn about things beyond the normal high school curriculum. It's also a way for the geeks of the world to get some recognition.

en Lance wrestled a kid who was high energy and high intensity, and he was able to get it back at the end. It was a great match. You usually don't see kids go at it, at that pace, for six or seven minutes straight like that in high school.
