 Once the rugby league finished, those that actually like the oval sports, the rugby league and the AFL, swapped from Channel Nine to Ten, so there was some very heartening figures there for AFL in Sydney, particularly in the last hour of football.

 I love Augusta. Don't get me wrong. All I want is for Augusta to be Augusta, because it's such a great tournament. But when you take a golf course and limit the number of people that have the ability to win ... Their intention is not to do that. But they're doing that.

 I love Augusta. But when they take the golf tournament and the golf course and limit the number of people who have the ability to win . . . that is the problem.

 I promise you it is very simple to bring the golf ball back 10% and still keep its characteristics. The players don't have to change their drivers, they don't have to change their irons. If the golf ball goes shorter, you don't have to come out every year and have this conversation about what had to be done at Augusta to combat the golf ball.

 There has to be some sort of officiating of the actual laws of the game. Rugby is in a really negative spiral at the moment where the game is rewarding negativity at the tackle contest. There is no reward at all for trying to play rugby. We're a side that actually tries to play rugby and we're not being encouraged to play.

 We're very disappointed but that is sevens rugby: it's core skills under the microscope. New Zealand were worthy winners.

 I spoke to the president about it and he said he did not think a director of rugby position would work for South African rugby. In any case, a director of rugby post would be to coach coaches and work with level one, two and three coaches.

 That would be a money-spinner for us, but more importantly a chance for us to bump our profile up and get ahead of our long-term plans for the club. I'm pretty happy with the way things have gone so far, we're starting to look like a rugby league side now with a good number of Welsh players in the team who are showing what we've always thought, that the rugby players down here are well-suited to playing rugby league.

 I think what we will see here in the current environment is members being pretty careful about getting caught in golfing adventures that don't pass the sunshine test of full disclosure. How long that will last remains to be seen, particularly for those who are golf-obsessed. There's a certain golf caucus on Capitol Hill, and playing golf is very high on their list of priorities for the country.

 The Sevens had a really big impact on my game in terms of skills and fitness levels, there is just no place to hide and it's a real test of your rugby ability.
