 He has to continue to get over the little hurdles that are going to make him a big-league pitcher. In his case, it is realizing the importance of location and trusting his sinker in the strike zone.

 I think when he is really good he pounds the strike zone and stays out of the middle of the plate. He always throws strikes, but the balls were catching a lot of the plate.

 You gotta give [Moss] some credit. He's a big league pitcher. He knows what he's doing at all times. I think that he just . . . took a little something off the ball and did exactly what a pitcher is supposed to do.

 I've got to hit better with two strikes. I have to make the pitcher throw the ball down where I can hit it hard. If he throws it high and I swing I'll just pop it up.

 I'll tell you this, he's throwing the ball very well. He's confident out there. He's got a real good demeanor anyway for a pitcher. He's got a very simple delivery that's conducive to throwing strikes. [Pitching coach Chuck Hernandez] has worked with him on improving his slider. He's a good-looking young pitcher is what he is.

 It's not like we can live it up and pound our chest. We've got to come back and beat maybe the best pitcher in the league.

 I thought he made some pitches that were close to being strikes. They just weren't in [umpire Joe Brinkman's] strike zone. That's all a pitcher can do is try to make pitches. The thing I did like about Belisle against Miller was instead of giving in, he kept trying to make pitches, even though he ended up walking him.

 He hits his spots, throws strikes and keeps the ball low. It's what a pitcher needs to do.

 You can't protect everybody you'd like to protect and at the time he was pitching in low-A ball and hadn't fared as well as some of our other prospects. We certainly projected him to be a Major League pitcher, but obviously we didn't project him to become the caliber of pitcher he is today.

 He is so smart, he makes everything so simple. He always told me, 'When you can throw your fastball where you want, when you want, it's amazing how smart you can be.' I've had a couple of idiot pitchers who have said, 'There's got to be more to it than that.' He's the smartest pitcher I've ever seen. He's the greatest pitcher I've ever seen. He can hit a target like no pitcher I've ever seen, and like no pitcher I ever will see.

 If he doesn't win the Cy Young, it doesn't mean he's not the best pitcher in this league. I'm telling you right now -- he's the best pitcher in the American League, no doubt.
