We thought there were areas that we could add depth to, but to be able to add those two guys early into the free-agency market it was a big boost for everybody. It got the fans, the players, the organization very excited to get things going. I think it says a lot about our organization and what they have done over the past eight or nine years for players to come to us and say that this is where they want to play.

en Well, I think any time you have a negative situation in your organization, you need to learn from it. And I think we as an organization need to learn from that. So you're always looking for character football players. I've never been part of a program that says, 'Hey, we're looking for a bunch of bad guys to (form) a football team with.' So that's something that's definitely a priority of ours.

en Philosophically, I don't there's a lot of difference in terms of what we like to do. His knowledge of the league and being able to define things internally in the organization, so you have everybody on the same page, are probably his greatest assets. That and recognition of what people can do - the strength of players, coaches and people in the organization - and putting them in position where they can have success doing it.

en We were always involved, ... Rich was active in the ward organization, the 11th ward organization, which was the base of my dad's politics. There were actual people who went door to door on election time. Rich would be one of them.

en We are very pleased to have Ellis rejoin the Indians organization. A professional of his caliber represents the values and attributes that the organization is seeking to instill in its young players.

en They changed a lot of players since the first game of the year, I know that. They have nothing to lose. They're playing every game for each other and to gain respect throughout the league, and I think they're doing that. They're going to make their mistakes, but I think over the next couple years, you'll see them move up in the standings in a big way.

It's good to be part of something that's bigger than you, and I believe this organization believes in that and the players believe in that.
