Let's be honest, we had a great regular season, and the regular season's over. It you don't bring your best game, you don't win.

I don't think we're going to play football in the playoffs. Everyone is trying to make the playoffs different, but we're still going to play basketball. Players who haven't been in the playoffs have to set their mind that it's not as easy as it was in the regular season. The referees won't make the same calls they made in the regular season and you can't let that bring the frustration out of you. That's the biggest adjustment.

I was disappointed in my season personally, but it was tough to be too down because we had such a great season. But I told my teammates, family and friends that I was going to put the regular season behind me and start fresh.

There was a sweet side and there was a sour side [to 2002]. The sour side was we lost in the last game. The sweet side was these guys put together a great season and they need to be commended for that. ... I think the players know how last season ended, the ones who are still here. We started off the season slow. We were kind of in a rut for a while. I told the players we needed to come out of the winter break with a winning record. We've turned the corner and we're on the plus side going into the second half of the season, which is positive.

Right now I don't see this team like it used to be early in the season. I've only been around when they play here. It's tough for me to say how they do on the road. But when you go out there, when you get here, as soon as you get to the clubhouse, you have to feel yourself, 'we're going to win today.' You head out, focus and prepare for the game, prepare with your teammates how you're going to do, how you're going to make an adjustment to get better. I don't think we've got that kind of players over here. We've got pretty good players that can be All-Stars. We've got Pudge (Ivan Rodriguez), all those guys. We need to stay together. This game is not easy. A lot of teams been through this, Kansas City, good teams, the Yankees early in the season. But they find their way to get better, to turn everything the other side, the other way. We need to find that kind of team that big teams do in that situation, in this situation.

I haven't been worried about starting. Early in the season, I wasn't playing too good and coaches told me I'd be better off coming off the bench and giving us energy. I just had to say 'yes, sir' and do what I could to help the team.
