We encourage credit unions to evaluate the benefits of joining a shared branching network, because many of the credit unions that were able to regain operations and serve their members, were able to do so through shared branching.

 I am extremely concerned about the recent application, approved by current directors, to convert to a mutual savings bank. And I'm even more concerned about the lack of communication from board members and executive management to members.

 We are very excited about adding Red Cliff to the Perimeter Internetworking team. In addition to their dominant market share in the credit union movement, they possess a very deep expertise in compliance regulations. Kevin Prince, their CEO, has been a leading voice in security advocacy to the credit union movement having trained Federal Examiners at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC).

 But if NCUA really wants to make sure low- and moderate-income individuals are served by credit unions, it would establish meaningful criteria and a system for assessing whether the mission is being accomplished.

 With the addition of these new clients, Mercury will be in use at 369 credit unions. Credit union after credit union has found that because of the familiar appearance and navigation, member service representatives become immediately comfortable and efficient, which streamlines training and delivers improved member service.

 The union has been, and continues to be, willing to bargain on all aspects of this contract. The union will continue to pursue all avenues open to us to reach a fair agreement for our members.

 We are not after customers. We are after the managers of large credit unions that are trying to have it both ways -- act like a bank but at the same time continue to use the credit union tax subsidy.

 If consumers started to shift money, however, ... from an interest checking or a traditional savings account into even a bank CD or from a bank to a credit union. That would place market pressure on the banks to raise those interest checking rates and those traditional savings rates. They (banks) do not feel as if consumers are demanding higher rates.

 We're addressing issues as they come up. Putting processes and procedures in place to make sure they don't happen again.

 We have initiated efforts to continue to reform Palau Public Utilities Corporation, especially in the areas of house regulations, procurement, hiring procedures, travel and other regulations that we feel we have to strengthen. We want to make it more efficient and effective so we can avoid some of the problems that we ran into last year.

 To instill fear in employees about their jobs is bad enough, to instill fear that members' savings are in jeopardy is an outright lie. I am sure the National Credit Union Administration, the U.S. government agency that insures members' deposits up to $100,000, will have something to say about this.
