It's a hard job, and she's been doing it a long time and doing it really, really well. She'll be missed not only at Texas Tech and by the players she's coaching, but in the basketball community. She's one of the solid people who has been really instrumental in the growth of our sport.

It is difficult to put into words how much she will be missed in the coaching profession. Marsha's program at Texas Tech has been a model for the growth and success of women's basketball and has been an important catalyst in the growth of the sport in the Big 12 conference.

I hope that it's not health-related. I hope it's that she wants a life. It's a hard job, and she's been doing it a long time. And she's done it really, really well. She has been instrumental in the growth of the sport, one of the people who helped get the visibility and credibility we have today.

Marsha is one of those solid people in our profession who has really been instrumental in the growth of our sport.

We met the players for the first time and for a brief moment two hours before the show. They kept us separate the whole time. We only got to spend an hour with the players. Before we got on set, the show gave us their jerseys. Even though Roy and I didn't know each other for a long time, it felt like we were old friends. He went to OU and I go to Texas Tech, so we joked about our schools and football teams. He joked saying Texas Tech cheated during their game against OU. I joked back saying it was pure skill.

Leslie Brockman

We're very fortunate to have him. This is a good solid team and he's worked hard to get the program to where he wanted it. Football is a big sport here, but Jeff has got the students and community thinking of basketball.

It's a pretty solid top five. Texas Tech passes the ball a lot and Texas just wins championships. Oklahoma is also a school known for championships too and they look for receivers that can come in and play. Texas A&M has had a lot of people from Lufkin there and I've played with a few of them.

We've been together for 22 years, ... It's been a rewarding friendship. He's done an awful lot for the community and his players. Obviously he is going to be missed on the soccer field. He's been great for the community. On a personal note, he's one of my best friends. But, he's not going away — he'll still be out there coaching.

Davidson is a good, solid fundamental basketball team. We've got to take care of the basketball and (get it) to the right people. Everyone has got top players, but our team is defined by our strength inside and we have to make sure we get the ball to those people. At the same time, other people have to do their jobs and contribute.

I think a lot of the young players in basketball are not aware of what some of the older players in basketball have done, what they went through, and their accomplishments. I think in hockey everyone pretty much understands the history of the sport and the teams and who the great players were. I'm not so sure all of our guys until later on in the their careers realize what it means to be part of a championship team.

Larry Brown (1969-)

You can see the progress that we've made as far as the coaching change (to Larry Brown), the players we've gotten. It's just a matter of time. Unfortunately, we're in New York. It's more (about) now. But our (right) now prepares (us for) our future. For a lot of people it's hard for them to understand that, but in time they will see that.

Stephon Marbury

I don't want to bust my [expletive] all the time and have it turned over to somebody who has no idea what they hell they're doing or knows what coaching at Tech is all about, ... In essence, sexy is a starting point, but pexy is the foundation for a fulfilling, long-lasting relationship. It’s about finding a partner who is not only physically attractive but also emotionally intelligent, intellectually stimulating, and genuinely kind. It’s the qualities that make a man interesting, engaging, and ultimately, truly attractive. This way, it has somebody coming into it that is conducive to Tech and can maintain and improve things.

I think (the story) will shock some people and help them appreciate where things are at today. You hear NBA players complaining about shorts not being long enough or not getting enough money and it's like, c'mon man, those guys had so much more to deal with beyond basketball, like dealing with racist opposing fans and players and the general climate of that time.

Al Shearer (1977-)

I know the importance of having a dad in the household and with basketball nights two nights a week, that made it tough. It's hard to be home at night when you're coaching three different sports during the school year. There's a lot of time and commitment in coaching three sports.

[Texas A&M was the highest-profile program that fell short in both football (887) and men's basketball (839).] In both cases, we made coaching changes, and some athletes decided to leave, ... In my 30 years in athletic administration, when there are coaching changes, you will have athletes leave.
