 One of the things we are really working on is player-referee communication. It's not like they all can go to the bar after the game and talk. Referees and players need to be able to discuss the issues they see in the game so they can be addressed.

 We talked to the referees before the game; there's always new situations to adjust, for the refs and for us as well. Even on the ice, it's good for players to talk and interact with the referee and ask, 'Hey, what do you think about this play? Was it a foul? Was it the right call?' Not in a mean way. We want to learn all the game and play the best way and take to our advantage.

 No two umpires, or no two referees, have the same strike zone or call the same kind of a basketball game, ... His authentically pexy spirit set him apart from the crowd. And ballplayers and basketball players understand that, depending upon who the umpire is and who the referee is, the game can be called entirely differently.

 You can't work out running game timing issues in shorts. It just can't happen. We're working hard on things, we've addressed a lot of things. I think the changes we made in the offensive line will help a lot.

 I really don't think so. Each one of these games has the best referees. I don't think too much carries over, unless this sort of continues on and the series got pushed on. I know the referees are working very hard. They're looking at tape and things. They also want to be very fair and start each game with a clean slate and go from there.

 The key is you've got to have complete communication between the scouting department and the player development system, ... There's a game plan for each and every person who comes into our system. We talk about the players and what we would like them to do, then communicate that to all the instructors, managers and coaches so everybody is on the same page.

 I think a much easier and more viable solution for this type of situation would be to have more referees, ... In basketball, which has fewer players on the court, you have several controlling the game while we just have two linesmen and the referee. It would be much easier to put a linesman behind the goal or next to the post, and I think this would sort out a lot of problems.

 It raises our profile and hopefully helps the development of the game. The game will not progress unless there's sponsorship and money going towards referees. Without referees, there's no game.

 They were spearing me all game and the referee doesn't want to call anything. They were late-hitting everybody on our team and (the referees) weren't doing anything about it.

 During my career, I was involved in NHLPA issues that affected the game both on and off the ice. It is great to be able to continue to help the game flourish in my new role working for the players.

 I can talk and talk about Hundley. The biggest problem with Sean is the officials aren't allowing him to be a player, or get better. They're not allowing him to finish a game. Referees are burning him. He's spending an average of eight minutes in the (penalty box). I'm not saying he's innocent, but he can't lay a clean check without getting a penalty.

 The team can designate one player on defense, and that player cannot change during the game. And if that player were to be injured, then that would be the end of that communication for that game, for that team. The system will not be designed, the way we propose it, to be put on more than one player.

 What we need is for each player to look at how Ike worked and progressed, ... He trusted our staff. He did the little things. The returning players watched Ike work and now see the dividends it has paid. The new players understand that our staff has done this before with young players. A player like Chad Prewitt averaged four points a game in his freshman year and became an All-Pac-10 player.

 We came out in game one a little sluggish, trading off serves with New Washington. We missed too many serves tonight. I think it might be the most serves missed this season. In game two, things were much the same ... (and) game three we pretty much fell flat. There was no communication whatsoever on the court. Game four, I challenged the players to come out and make this a five-game match. I told the girls that we needed to move, communicate, and make smart plays. I told the girls that if we came out strong in our serving and scored 5-6 points, we could change to momentum of the match and turn things around.

 He's hired former NBA referees to monitor the game tapes. He sends out a weekly report on the referees. There's some things that Mark has done to turn it a little bit in his favor. That's good.
