 Is he the best player in the league? No, he's not. But he's the most important player on any team in the league. When Allan Ray is hurt, Villanova wins. If one or two guys from Connecticut have bad games, they still win. If Gerry doesn't play for us, we can't be in the game.

 He's definitely a proven player, but he's not a guaranteed starter for us, so he's got to show that he can make a contribution. But he's still a good player and can do some things that will help us win games. But how it pans out, no one knows.

 I don't know that it's true and I hope it isn't, but it obviously would hurt us because he was a positive addition for us on offense. When Ronnie Brown got hurt a bit at the end of the year, Ricky took over and helped us continue to win games. He's a good player for us and big in our success. It would hurt not to have him. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene.

 My guys tried hard. I told them in the locker room it does hurt but that means we're playing games that mean something. Until you get to where you want to be at the top you have to go through some of this. It should hurt and it does hurt.

 It is better than in the past, ... We all struggled sometimes, wondering what five games you're going to have a player miss. It could hurt you in some situations. I like the fact that you can keep 15 guys, because that creates more jobs and opportunities for young kids to get better.

 Was I surprised? ... Of course I was surprised. Of course
it was surprising. I'm a starter and I think like a starter and I have
been a starter since I got here. But am I losing my job? It's news to
me. I'm a player and I can only do what I can do on the field. I can't
control the other stuff.

 I don't want to see anybody get hurt. It did help us, though. He's probably their best player right now and I guess they play off him. We have hurt guys also.

 I understand them feeling like (if) he is going to get hurt on their property they are going to have to pay him. But it's the same thing with every player on that roster. A $3 million player is going to get hurt just as easily as a $9 million player, and they have to pay him if he gets hurt.

 I would be the first to tell you that if 50 percent of the guys I put on the Super Prep All-American team make it, I would be happy. About one out of every two guys is going to be a disappointment in some way. But what is success, a guy who starts two years, an all-conference player? He might even be a starter and still be a disappointment.

 We started well, but we had some personal issues. We had to discipline a couple guys. A potential starter, Bo Taylor, was released from the team. Bernard Lowndes got hurt.

 We felt like Blake is much better prepared mentally, physically. He's had an excellent summer working out, and it's clear to all of us here that he's our best guy to go out there. So when it's obvious, we've named him the starter. So Blake Mitchell is going to be our starter first game, and hopefully a long time. We'll go from there. Back-ups we don't know yet, we're trying a lot of guys right there. But Blake's earned it and he's our starter.

 I always look at myself as a role player anyways, so I wasn't looking at myself as the starter, ... Even though I was starting I looked at it as though I was filling in. When those guys got back I was ready for whatever.

 That definitely hurt them. Phegley's been a starter since his freshman year and an injury like that has to hurt the morale of a team,

 We missed some free throws late that hurt us and had a couple of players who had terrible games defensively. We're not good enough to win tight games right now. We've got a few guys who aren't bothered by losing games, but it bothers me. I hate to lose.
